Position:Home>Dancing> Can anyone tell me the count for learning the tandem charleston in lindy hop dan

Question:My partner and I would love to be able to do the tandem charleston but don't know the count of the steps. We already do rock n roll a lot but would love to add these steps into our routines. If anyone is able to put this into words we would be pleased to hear from you.

The transition to get into tandem (or shadow charleston) is actually too complex to explain over yahoo answers. The girl (or follow) has to change her footwork inorder to match the guy's (or lead's) footwork.

The basic charleston footwork is easy.

Rock, Step on 1, 2 (Left Back, Right Forward)
Kick, Step on 3, 4 (Left Kick Forward, Left Step Forward)
Kick, Hold on 5, 6 (Right Kick Forward, Right Hold Back)
Kick, Step on 7, 8 (Rick Kick Back, Right Step Back)
Repeat.

If you want to learn more about charleston, you can always search YouTube for lessons. You should check out this website as well, which has swing instruction videos for only $0.99:

Additionally, you should look up where the closest lindy hop community is to you. Try searching your City/State on this website:
http://www.thelindyhop.com

You can also try posting on the National Swing Forum:

And you should definitly try attending a major swing camp/weekend, like this:

And last, but not least, "Rock n' Roll" isn't really a proper dance name. I believe what you are probably doing is actually called "East Coast Swing", which is a six-count basic.

I hope that helps!
