Position:Home>Dancing> How do you do a fouette??

Question:So I been dancing ever since I was 5 and I could never figure out a fouette. Can you please explain how to start it off and keep spinning? It is the only move I cannot do. And if there are different versions for males I would appreciate if you could tell me how to do that one considering im a guy. THANX!!!

Start like a pirouette make sure you spot! When you hit the front again, plie, extend the leg (developpe) and bring it back into passe push into releve and turn. Do this step by step, in slow motion at first to get your muscles to remember the way it should feel before you actually really do the turn. Most people think you get the momentum from your leg extension but that is wrong, you will lose your balance. You need to get the power and momentum to turn from your arms, your pull up from your core (abs), and going from plie and pushing into releve. Hope this helps, I am a dance teacher and this is how I teach my students, also when I was younger my ballet partner was a guy and he learned fouettes this way as well.

i don't know if there is a speical way for boys but i am like a pro at these. start like your preping for a piruquette. pile your base leg and push the other leg across your body. when you get facing forward, take the leg that is in the air and push it level across your body. then bring in like a pose' i hope i helped you if not, you can ask me for more spasific directions. ~holly~

i would advise asking your dance teacher or somebody in your dance class. like stay after for a few minutes because a fouette is really hard to explain and understand in words. watch some videos on youtube of it. this guy is on pointe which is unusual http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru0GQIllV...

oh man fouette's are really complex. The key to it is to plie to the front everytime. Don't whip your leg aruond too fast or you'll lose control. Just keep practiving it tons
