Position:Home>Dancing> Should I preform?

Question:I'm a ballet dancer, and we have an up coming show. I have to preform a section on my own. I'll be the only one on stage. I don't want to do it, what if I mess it up? There wil be about 500 people there, as it is a major show. I'm just so scared I'll mess up. Should I do it or not?

Okay, here's the thing:

If you're scared you'll mess up, there's a good chance you will. Your nerves will get to you, and you'll be extremely nervous. And let's face it, for us dancers, the last thing you need is feeling nervous. It kind of stops us from fully performing well because the body is not feeling 100%.

Breatheeeeeee. Relax! To get rid of your nerves, you have to truly believe and know that you'll do well. Don't let any negative thoughts into your mind before or while you're performing. Feel the music and do what you love: dancing :). Before you know it, you will be so into your section and dance, the nerves won't even be there.

To make sure you won't mess up, practice your section A LOT. Practice, practice, practice until you have your solo part down COLD. Then, you'll know for sure you can do it!

Don't worry about the crowd, they're just people. Most of the crowd will probably not be ballet dancers and if you DO make a small mistake, they won't even notice!

Your solo is your time to shine! Don't sweat it. If you think you'll do great, you will!

Let us know how you do! & Good luck!

Yes, go for it. You'll regret not at least trying....

no

perform**

and YES YE SYE SYEYSD:JHGF:SKDGF:SKIDJFYESYEYSYESYESPDJ...

yes u should if you are good at dancing

Do it. Practice hard, and it'll be worth it in the end when you accomplish such a great thing!

Do it. I'm sure you're great. April Fools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... eve.

go for it! break a leg! (not really)

OF course! You may never get another chance! GO FOR IT GIRL! If they told you you could be on stange by yourself then you must be good!

Yes, i bet you will do a great job!

Do it, and if you mess up, you'll be the only one who knows so just keep going and they will never be able to tell ;)

yesss yes yes

I think you should do it.

Even if you do mess up, people won't know you messed up as long as you keep going and pretend like nothing happened. They will adore you!!!!!

Plus, this will definently boost your confidence :]

If you want to perform, then do. If you don't want to, give it some serious thought, because most people get into the "performing arts" for the very thing you are eschewing. Live for the stage! It is a rush!

if youre teacher wants you to do a solo, clearly you are an amazing ballerina! go for it, be confident in yourself! and even if you do mess up, the only person who will know is you. just keep smiling and continue dancing !

If you feel that you've practiced enough, then go for it! If you want to make a career out of dancing, you're going to have to "put yourself out there" to get noticed and all. However, if you dance for the fun/exercise and really don't want to, then don't worry about it.

I'm sure even amazing dancers get nervous and all, but think how good it'll feel after!!

Do it! You won't get over your fear until you try it! Plus, if you mess up, you will be the only one to know, so just keep on going like you never did mess up! That's what I do! Most likely, no one will notice, but they will notice if you stop and try to fix it! Performing on stage is soooo much fun once you get over your nerves :)

I think you should…

i have been dancing for sooo long and i no what you feel like. even if you do mess up, people still aplaude you for your courage and enthusiasm.
i say go for it!!!

good luck.

definitley do it! Best way to get over your fears is to face them! And who knows maybe you'll find the rush of being on stage by yourself more exciting than scary!

What is the worst that can happen? You fall down and they laugh at you. No one dies, so go for it. You just might be great and the next time you will be better.

Break a leg!!

One of the best things about performing as a soloist is that if you do happen to mess up than the only one who will know it is you and your choreographer. You can still make it look like it was on purpose to the audience. With that to calm your nerves it makes it easier to perform alone.

Relax. Stop thinking about the worst case scenario. Obviously, if your instructors think your good enough to be up there alone, youre good enough that you shouldn't be underestimating yourself. Have fun with it. One time, i messed up at a play, I fell on my buut, stood up, dusted myself off, smiled and said "Th-th-thats all, folks!" turns out it was the most popular play that year. The point is to have fun with it, not to be perfect.

girl, have confidence, go up on tha stage and show everyone wut you got!! dont be affraid and dont lose your confidence cuz i know that you can do it =)

plus it's something that is your interest and you love to do, so why not give it a try... and taking about if you mess up, don't worry you will not.. if you keep thnking positive and thinking that you will do it and go through it perfectly then you will do well!

Good luck.. and let us hear from you how you performed!

Yes!! preform!! if you don't do it you will regret it and wish you did. Don't think about messing up so much and think about how much fun it will be doing what you love. Of course your going to get scared but if you practice it over and over again once you go for the real thing you will preform it the same way you did while practicing.

Go For It! You are obviously very talented if they have asked you to do a solo piece! You will really enjoy it. Nerves are normal but you can't beat the rush of performing and you will feel so proud of yourself when it's all over!

Good Luck!!

You are an artist. You are doing something the rest of us see as beautiful. In most cases artists such as yourself are far more aware of a screw up than their audience. And finally, your audience will applaud your tallent, your courage, your dedication to dancing and your performance. They will applaud all of that. And, you will be happy when you have met the challenge that your dance instructor has given you.

of course you should... well I think you should... but I'm not the one who has to do it. I'm in drama and no matter how scared i get I always find that after its over I feel so accomplished. I have messed up a lot in my time onstage. The key is to pretend that you didn't mess up. No one watching you will know you messed up unless you make a face or stop dancing. IF you happen to mess up make something up until you can get back to where you know what your doing. Just don't stop. YOU and the choreographer are going to be the ONLY ones who know you messed up. after the show people are going to compliment anything you did and if you chose to tell them you messed up i bet you they will say "I didn't even notice".

Of course its a chance of a life time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

Think of it like this, if you mess up you'll have a funny story to tell and if you nail it you'll have a heroic story to tell....

plus you'll regret it if you don't do it

YES!!!!!!!
If your worried, mentally prepare yourself by getting quiet, like meditating and see your self very sucessful. Include details and feel the feeling. You will be creating your reality... Good luck. This is the best of life!!! GO FOR IT!!!!!!!
I'm really sorry I didn't grab life like you have a chance to...

you should definitely do it!!!
