Position:Home>Dancing> How to keep feet dry during modern I?

Question:I take modern I and we are not allowed to wear any sort of dance shoes. My feet perspire naturally and it is worse on days that it is humid. This evening my feet were dragging and I nearly turned my knee because I could not complete a figure 4 turn.
I ended up getting a burn from the marly floor during a side pull because of the moisture in the studio and the bottom of my feet.
The moisture caused my feet to stick and drag on the floor. I would like to hear from other dancers on what you use to keep your feet dry in class.
Thanks

I would try a layer of light baby powder. See if that helps. Get your feet used to dancing in bare feet. They will harden and become easier to dance on in time. I have been dancing for 24 years and let's be honest- dancers do not have the nicest feet. I prefer dancing in bare feet over shoes any day!

I agree with the baby powder comment, but you might also try these little socky things I found when I first started dancing. It's a very thin flesh colored tube (thicker than panty hose but thinner than most socks) that just covers your foot from the middle of your toes back about 3 inches. You can usually find them in department stores near the sandals. There's another kind called a mule sock that just covers your toes and the balls of your feet. Hope that helps!

I've been dancing over 20 years as well, and I agree that I prefer bare feet, just because it makes me feel the most connected to the floor.
Having said that, my feet need a break every now and then! I was a modern dance major in college, so my poor feet were barefoot....a LOT!
I invested in "DancePaws" -- I know you said that your teacher doesn't let you wear shoes, but perhaps you'd be allowed to wear these? They only cover the ball of your foot, and they have individual toe-holes so that your toes are all being used and have free motion.
They're pretty expensive, I think they run around 30 bucks. There are versions of them out there as well. Some don't have individual toe-holes, which is why I preferred the DancePaws.
Find out from your teacher if she'll let you try them, and then go try a pair on in a dance store! It would be worth it!
