Before starting any group lessons, Erica highly recommends taking a few private lessons so that you don’t develop any bad habits. It’s a good idea to train your ear to find the correct beat and learn how to stay balanced while spinning, so that when you take group classes you can focus on learning new patterns. Even if you are already an intermediate level dancer, private lessons can help you dance better and give you more variety. Private lessons will develop your confidence and improve your skill faster than any other method!

To get started, simply call 713.859.8110 or email erica@dancebyerica.com to schedule a private lesson for up to 2 people. Lessons may also be reserved for private groups.

Most lessons are taught in the late afternoon or evenings, M-F. During your first lesson, you will learn as many patterns and techniques as possible within the hour. We will then have a better idea of what your natural ability is so that we can recommend a plan, depending on what your goals are.

(Please dress comfortably in nice casual clothing, and pay close attention to personal hygiene. Loafers/ flats that don’t scuff the floor work best until you are ready for dance shoes. No thong sandals, shorts, or revealing tops, please!)

If you enjoy your first lesson and would like to continue, you can schedule another lesson. When you return, you will purchase a program of either 5 or 10 hours.

Keeping a regular appointment once or twice a week is best. Or you might want to schedule your next lesson at the end of each appointment. Either way is fine, we are flexible on appointment times. However, we do require a 48 hour notice when rescheduling, so that we may try and rebook the hour. If less than 24 hours notice is given, $25 will be deducted from your program. If you do not show up for, or cancel the same day of a lesson, the full hour will be deducted from your program with no exceptions.

Most people need at least 5 to 10 private hours to get really good at a couple of dances. If you are brand new to dancing, it’s important that you get past the “mechanical” stage as quickly as possible. Only then will you be able to enjoy dancing naturally. It’s a good idea to schedule your first couple of lessons back to back if possible. Many people choose to continue with private dance lessons as a regular hobby. If you think this might be you, please note that the 10 hour package is discounted.
