Position:Home>Dancing> What's the difference between Lord of the Dance and Riverdance or are they t

Question:Riverdance was the original musical, started in Ireland, it starred initially Micheal Flattley, an american/irish dancer. Riverdanced toured the world and was very successful.
Now the next thing that happened has a few versions, but the most common was that Micheal F was a little arrogant, and a bit of a prima and decided to start up shop by himself. So he left Riverdance and created a musical "Lord of the Dance". He got a load of Irish dancers and choreographed the musical and trained everyone all up, and took it on tour.
Having seen both, I think I like the Lord of the Dance a little more, it was a little more free for some reason, although Riverdance, used the other nations dancing in it. More of a story in the Lord of the Dance.

Similar type but different shows.

Riverdance was first,. co-choreographed and featuring Michael Flatley.

Flatley later developed his own show, featuring himself. . . .Lord of the Dance.

Shows are similar in style. Irish Step Dancing with a theatrical twist.

Very strong use of Irish
dancing occurs in both shows.

But the similarities end here..........

Lord of the Dance has more fire and pyrotechnic effects than that of Riverdance. Why? As you probably know, "Lord of the Dance" refers to a dancing god (Michael Flatley), who is
perceived as if he a god who wants to set the stage on fire.
So Lord of the Dance is a tinge of a "Burning Man" festival even though the only wildness is precision Irish dancing.

Riverdance has much fewer special effects if you can take out the lighting, so fewer pyrotechnics in Riverdance, if any......
