Position:Home>Dancing> High school Dance team tryouts?

Question:I'm trying out for the dance team sometime in April and I've been practicing pirouettes, and stretching a lot. I am having trouble catching on to steps when first seeing them. It makes me nervous because if they go over it like twice for tryouts i wont no whats going on. I am also wondering what the judges will really be looking for, i know facial expressions are important but i am really shy. and tend to hold back when I'm dancing. Sorry this is so long but any advice?
also this is for high school dance team, i still don't have my splits down tho.

i am currently on drill team for my high school at first i had trouble picking up the steps but most importantly to catch on u should tune out everyone around you consentration is a big part try not 2 look like you're thinking so hard it makes u look adkward but if u absolutly have to then it's better 2 look like you're thinking real hard n do the dance than try not 2 look like you're thinking n mess up.Judges willl be looking fo prcision sharp movement smiles apperance pointed toes your posture is a very important part. For your splits i had trouble with my left spilt i couldn't do it at all But my right was perfect That's odd people everyone says the right is the hardest but 2 me it was the opposite. Stay on beat let the music flow through you. Become comfortable with the best then the steps will flow through you like a breath of fresh air.Don't hold back never dull your hsine for anybody. Some girls are mean to girls who have trouble at first but show them out when you come to trty outs and put them to shame. Stretch everyday to work on splits. Sit on the ground and spred ur legs open as wide as they can go put ur head on ur left then rite knee for 10-15 seconds then to the center make your head touch the floor.I promise you're split will improv until it is right. Vote me as your best answer!!! I really wanna no how how u did write me back.

You need to shine. What's the worst that could happen? If you don't give it your all, then you'll never get anywhere. Just practice learning choreography and you'll be fine.

I'm the senior captain for my high school's dance team and at tryouts most of the time we look for the girls who try their hardest and give it their all. The thing is, when we are learning the competition routines, we go over them so much that we really don't care at tryouts how fast you catch on. Just be sure to practice at home over and over again the night before tryouts. As for your splits, stretch after you get out of the shower. The way I got my splits down is by putting my front foot on the bottom stair then doing the splits from there.. trust me it helps! Good luck at your tryouts!!! Make sure you give 'em some ATTITUDE! (:

dont do what you can master but do what is difficult. they love it when you mess up

look you just need to calm down cause if you want it then your gonna get it
the first sep to gettin in the a dance team is having confidence cause those people who are on the dance team arent shy at all so you need to become comfortable with crititcism

Great job on practicing. Aerobics or Yoga helps dancers a lot. It's ok, when the instructor is doing footsteps I kinda go along with her.

Pull your hair back, and put on some natural looking make-up. If you have a gap, fill it with vaseline. Try not to eat it! When your jumping or popping, show a cheezy smile.

If you mess up, make it apart of the dance! If your supposed to pirouette, and you fall kick your leg up, and get up gracefully.

Put lotion on your feet and your heels if your dancing barefoot, so you can slide better. I like it between my toes too!
