Position:Home>Dancing> Are my pointe feet normal?

Question:I have had pointe shoes for about 3 months and i haven't had any pain what so ever. i have been on my box on the first day and the first to have my pointe shoese die and to get the second pair. some people are blaming my for breaking them in too much but i think it's just because i got a different pointe shoe that the others and the shoe was extra soft. On my second pair of pointe shoes i am still on my box and still have no pain or blisters. Is there something im doing wrong?

Not necessarily, depending no a few factors. You mentioned that you had a soft shank, and if you have strong feet and a few hours a week, the shoes have lasted surprisingly long! The life of a pointe shoe is truly only a few hours, so it certainly isnt abnormal to have 2 pairs in 3 months. However, if you ARE breaking them in, lay off, they don't really need it unless you bought something ENTIRELY too hard for the strength of your foot. For example, I usually wore gamba hards, and after 6 hours they were mush. My feet, personally, broke down the box faster than the shank (its carbon fiber, not redboard in this style), you may be the kind of dancer who breaks the shank first, its variable.
As far as blisters and pain, that's just how your feet are, I never had that problem either. The fact that you're still on the box means the shoe has some life left.

What you are is lucky!

when I danced, my feet KILLED me. It was horrible.

Yes they are perfectly normal. Some people have stronger feet than others. I would suggest if you are not already doing it, that you don't break in your pointe shoes by hand becuz that will make them die faster. Bring your pointe shoes to the store, and ask them for one with a little bit harder shank. That should make them last longer.

good luck, and if you have any other pointe Q's just email me at dancingstar7@gmail.com

this is jessie's daughter..
i am 13 and ive been in dance since i was 4
my first point year was when i was 9

your not doing n/e thing wrong..dont listen to n/e girls in your class cus they know as much as you do

its probably cus you have a high arch which causes the foot to break in your shoes faster so i suggest to talk to your instructor about suggestions of other shoes

if she has no suggestions.. try a harder shoe

savannah :]

It depends on how much time you spend each class in your pointes and what movements your are doing. Pointe shoes also come in many different varieties with different choice in shank, vamp, and box. Some brands have a fiberglass box (such as grisko's and fuzies- may be mispelled ;) which have a much longer life than the typical box which softens easier. Most can also be ordered in different shank strengths (ie, soft shank - medium shank- hard shank) If it is your box that is breaking quickly, consider trying a shoe with a fiberglass box. If it is your shank that is breaking quickly, see if your brand can be ordered with a harder shank. As for the lack of pain and blisters- good for you sweetie! Let's hope it lasts ;)

what brand do you have? My friend and I went en point at the same time and hers did that in like two weeks. Are ballet teacher said her brand was not a good brand and that they were not stiff enought to even being with...something about the soul. Anyway she teacher said if you start with bad ones your feet will get used to it and when you get good ones your feet DIE.

Wow, I envy you. When I'm on pointe, it doesn't hurt that much but it's not like I'm on cloud nine either~ My friend wears capezio's and her arch is amazing and she breaks them in SO fast. On the other hand theres me, my arch isn't that great and we even have the same brand and everything but I've had mine for 7 months!

No i'm sure your perfectly normal. it's probably just some combination of your feet build and the brand of shoe. For example i have moderate arch and wear capezios so mine can last me about a month. But my friend Katie has super high arches and wears Freeds so she can kill shoes in like a week.
