I use a table for a bar, my livingroom floor for stretching and a hard wood or tile floor for the dancing.

a good substitue for a barre is the kitchen bench, obviously depends how tall you are, the back of a sofa and the banister of a staircase.

i have a couple small rugs over a hard wood floor in my room, so i just clear those away and use my dresser- its a little short, but still works
an idea i really want to try is making a makeshift barre out of PVC pipes. idk how expensive or hard that'd be, but its worth looking into.
