Position:Home>Dancing> What is the difference between hip hop dancing offered by dance studios and brea

Question:I asked my mom if she can send me to a dance studio so I can learn breakdancing but she keeps saying that is hip hop dancing. Are they the same thing? Or two different things? I ain't know gymnasty, I don't want to learn cartwheels or backflips. I want learn urban breakdancing moves like stunts, one handed freezes, and all that stuff. So please answer my two questions

1) Is hip hop dancing and breakdancing the same thing? Or no? (Please explain if there's a difference)

2) Do dance studios (Who offer ballet, jazz dance, hip hop) offer breakdancing as well?

Hip hop dancing is a large category. Breakdancing, or bboying as most bboys call it, is hip hop dancing, but hip hop isn't always bboying. Hip hop dancing branches off to many other sub styles, and bboying is one of them.
One of the main differences to tell if it is bboying or not is if the dance is choreographed or non choreographed (freestyle). Sometimes bboys will practiced choreographed dances also, but usually they learn freestyle. In bboying, the main sets of moves are toprock, footwork, freezes, and powermoves. If you don't know any of these terms, feel free to search em up on youtube or something.
Some dance studios might offer breakdancing, and some might not. You should ask them if they do. If you can't find any studios that offer classes, check with your local YMCA. my YMCA offers bboying classes for little kids and advanced bboys.
also, FYI, cartwheels and backflips are stunts and used in bboying, but you don't necessarily need to learn them.
good luck

Hip hop and break dancing can be very different, depending on the class (like if it's an all girls class the moves could be veryy girly)
Basically hip hop does not really do floor work like break dancing. Break dancing classes do some forms of hip hop sometimes though.

My dance studio does offer break dancing along with ballet jazz tap lyrical hip hop and belly dancing, so I'm sure you could find a studio that offers break dancing classes.

okay well breakdancing falls under hip hop. so you'll be learning more of popping/locking/tutting/ all that good stuff but not specifically bboying. sometimes studios will offer a separate class for breaking but that depends on where you go. so the hiphop class will teach you only a little of bboying, to be honest you'll probably be better off with youtube videos.

there 5 elements of hip hop:
-breakdancing
-grafitti
-hiop hop (the dance)
-krumping
-bboying (evry1 can breakdance but not evry1 is a bboy)

breakdancing is a form of hip hop, but when u enter a hip hop class they r not going to teach you how to break

- hip hop is more foot work and breakdancing is more power moves/freezes
-both belong in the same family.
-but both got different styles

and when dance studios offer you hip hop classes no they do not offer breakdancing 2. very few dance studios offer breakdancing
(personaly the best way to learn is from the streets! ma boys tought me evrything i know)

good luck!!!
