Position:Home>Dancing> Just bought new pointes need opinions!?

Question:So I just bought my first pair of pointe shoes, I am really excited, however after I bought them I looked up reviews on the shoe I bought (Gaynor Minden) and people are saying that they aren't good. I was surprised because I had heard from others that they were good shoes. Has anyone tried them?? If so what do you think, I'm wondering if I should take them back and get something else. People were saying that it is easier to get an injury in these?? I need help.

Okay, don't get nervous or worry. Did you dance teacher tell you what brand of pointe shoe she wanted you to purchase?
If she told you to purchase she must love them. If you wanted this brand pointe shoe that is also fine. Dancers are going to fine good and bad about different brand shoes just like people talk about sneakers. You use these pointe shoes for now and if they work for you; you stay with them. If not then you try another brand when you need new pointe shoes. I hope that I helped you out a little.

i always got mine custom made by a local shop. they were really good. in fact my current pointes i have had for 5 years now.

I personally HATE Gaynors because of the preformed shanks. They pretty much shove you up onto pointe without allowing you to actually roll through demi point to get up, which is the correct way to releve. They make it a TON harder if you ever want to switch brands because you aren't working your feet, ankles, and calves as hard as you do in normal shoes. You can try them, but beware that they may harm you rather than help you. I would really recommend getting a different kind.

Well, I have to say that I LOVE my Mindens! So I may be a little biased, but still! I think it really depends on your feet. If you have strong feet or high arches, they work great, save you money and are very comfortable. It's really up to you, but if I were you I'd give them a try. If they don't work for your feet, you can always try something else next time! You might also want to ask your dance teacher what they think.

May many years of fun and blisters lie ahead! Good luck!

hate them. some people love them because they help you up on to pointe so you dont have to do the work yourself, they come with a built in arch and they have lots of padding. I definitely think they're cheater shoes. If your a beginner they don't help you build strength at all, i know, i had these my first 3 years of pointe and it royally screwed me. When i switched from gaynors to other shoes i had no strength so it was like starting pointe all over again. Plus i think they're very ugly on almost everyone (there are a few exceptions)

personally i love them, but i can see where people get that they can cause injuries. they're already broken in for you basically. So it doesnt help your ankle, youre going to have to have strong ankles when you use this. the other shoes are more stiff & harder to break in & it'll give you a little more support & make you work & push over your box harder. it all depends on you. if you dont feel that you should wear them, or if youre nervous, exchange them. be comfortable & confident in what you wear.. ya kno?

It depends on you and your foot. Pointe shoes work differently for different people's feet. If it is " easier to get an injury" I suggest attaching elastics that go around your ankle. That should help prevent injuries. Just don't try too many tricks your first time : )
