I would wait. You don't want to hurt your self. I've been on pointe for 3 years now. I started when I was 16 and took ballet for 6 years first. Make sure you are strong enough to do basic ballet moves first, such as fouette turn, pirouette turns, and so on. Make sure you are developed enough as well. So if you are a "late bloomer" I would wait. A lot of times girls start pointe before they are fully developed and it can really mess you feet and toes up, permanently. Be very careful if you start anyway. Don't go up en pointe without a qualified dance instructor. You don't want to hurt yourself! I promise it is worth the wait.

I started pointe at 11 (this year) because at my studio, you absolutely have to be 11 to start pointe and exceptionally good. I have been doing like actual ballet since I was 4. And I really hate people that brag so I dont wanna sound like I am bragging, but I got moved up into a level that I am not supposed to be in until next year and I am still one of the like medium-good (not horrible but not like omg- fabulous) students.

As soon as I turned twelve and i have been doing ballet since i was 4. I also took pre-pointe class for a year before i went en pointe. If you want to go on pointe you should take a pre-pointe class for a year and also make sure it is safe for your bones. Ask your doctor how much more your foot plates are growing.

Hope this helps!!!

I was 11 1/2 and had been taking ballet since I was 5.
Different studios have different age, weight, experience requirements though, so ask around at your ballet school to see how much you need.
I think you'll want to be at least 11 so you don't disturb the growth of your foot bones.

I started ballet in September when I was 13, I started point the week after Christmas. I was a gymnast first and had done other kinds of dance, so I had some experience. Combined, I have 22 years behind me now.

I started dancing about a year and a half ago when I was 14. It took me that year and a half to work my butt off and get pointe shoes.
(Although, that isn't a very common situation, so if you are new to ballet you should approximate about three years of work to earn them. Strength exercises for your feet and ankles will help move along the process too.)
Another random little fact is that most girls (note the word most) get their pointe shoes between the ages of 11 and 15.

I started pointe at around 13.

I started Pointe in the summer of 07 and I've been doing ballet for... 4 almost 5 years only. I think I started ballet around 9 and started dancing at around 7,

I started ballet when I was 3 and I'm now 13. Last year I started taking a pre pointe class and I think it has really helped. I got my pointe shoes about a week ago and I'm slowly breaking them in. They require lots of hard work and dedication.
I hope your years en pointe are rewarding!
