Position:Home>Dancing> Dancing help?

Question:I have a few questions. Ok, so I'm a dancer and I do pointe, jazz, tap, and ballet. First of all does anyone have any good arch stretches for pointe? I always end up getting cramps in my arches while I'm on my toes. And as you can imagine, that's not a very good thing! =)
Also I was wondering if anyone can help me spin faster when I'm wearing lyricals. I always spin on the balls of my feet, making me spin slower. The only problem is that if I spin normally, I get "rug burns" from the wood floors.
Any suggestions?

omj i do ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, competition, and pointe!! and guess what- i am only 12.

for pointe- if you have like a cabinet in your house that is low to the ground but not on it (i know this doesn't make sense), sit down on the ground, put your toes under it and straighten your legs. do not do this if it puts you in a lot of pain. this may sound immature, but honey trust me i have been doing all this at a strict studio for 10 years. i am experienced.

lyrical- first off: you do not spin, you *turn*, or piroette. baby powder on the balls of your feet and your toes, make sure you are wearing "toe-undeez", not barefoot, unless you are doing modern or contemporary.

hope i helped.?

good luck girl!!! =]

for point put your point shoes of and push forward so u feel a stretch in your ankle. and for lyrical before call put baby powder on your toes . it may sound weird but honey trust your felllow dancer

For the arch cramps en pointe, there's nothing you can do except wait for your feet to get strong enough so that they don't cramp. In the meantime if it gets really bad, you can bring a small ball to class and roll it on the bottom of your foot to massage your arch. This is a process that I went through, too, and this helped a lot. Believe me, it gets easier!

As for the turning, you're supposed to turn on the balls of your feet, so I don't know what you mean by 'normally'. You can try putting baby powder on your toes like other people said and just try to get more momentum when you turn so you go faster. If you do a turn where you're spotting (if you're doing some turns where you don't spot) make sure to really whip your head around and bring your arms in quickly. This will help with speed.
