I'm kinda shy when it comes to competitions too lol! If you love to dance then show it! Put your heart into it and amaze the audience. Theirs nothing to be afraid of. The people are there to watch dance, and none of them think it's stupid cuz they purpously came to see people dance! Before the comp. take deep breaths and have confidence! Stay focused and I'm sure everything will go well! Good Luck:)

Ddon't mind the public... at the beginning . If you can immerse yourself in the routine focusing in how much you enjoy your movements, the public will react positively to you enjoyment and it will be a powerful feedback that will keep you going even better. But mainly do it to yourself, savor your performance.

I remember being very very nervous for my first solo too.

One important thing that will definitely ease your nerves is if you feel confident about the routine....this means practice, practice, practice!!!

However - keep in mind everyone's nervous, no matter how much experience.

Just smile and be confident! Even if someone is the best dancer in the world, if they look nervous and shy and they don't smile, their performance won't be as good as it could have been. I'm sure you'll do great! Good luck! Oh yeah and congratulations! : )

You will do great. I just got a solo this year as well. by Just let it go. Once you start dancing, you'll get so caught up in the music you won't even realize anyone is there.
I am only 14, but I am in a company that dances at nursing homes. This year, I got a solo and just freak out that I got it, but then I realized I would be onstage alone. Our first show was Sunday and i flipped out, but when I let myself just forget everything and I just listened to Elvis' voice saying, "For my darling I love you, and I always will," I totally didn't care if I messed up. Guess what? I killed it about 3/4 of the way through and completely improvised. Noone but my teacher and I knew and it was still a great preformance. As I was packing up my coustumes, one old lady came out to find me. She said she absolutely loved it. So what if you mess up? I gaurentee you'll do great and make someone's day a little brighter. Good luck! You will do great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smile, and think about how much dancing means to you. What helps me is knowing that I'm probably never going to see the people in the audience ever again, and that a least the girls from my studio will be cheering me on.
