1. to try out for cheerleading, you should be flexible and a good dancer which you already are.. you should be able to do the jumps they do (practice on a trampoline).. take a tumbling class and be able to do at least a cartwheel, roundoff, back bend, etc. (the easy stuff).. you need muscle in your legs and arms so do some push ups and kicks to strengthen them

2. the only way to get more flexable is to stretch every single day! for about an hour while doing your homework, watching tv, etc. just don't push yourself too hard or you will pull a muscle which hurts reallyy reallyy bad (that may help get your splits but don't risk it)

good luck and practice a lot!

Requirements depend on each school.

It is alot of practice. My daughter (17) never could figure it out, but she mad echeerleader for her high school because she is loud, understands the sport she is cheering for and is very crisp in her moves.

I'm not sure I know what requirements there might be....

But as for your second question, I would ask my dance teacher if I were you. I was a cheerleader once and asked my jazz teacher for help with splits(which definitely helped), but cheering got into my acting, singing, and dancing so I had to quit. Anyway I think you should practice splits if you can with your dance teacher. Also, try doing "bridges" by raising your stomach up and putting your arms on the floor behind your head to form an arch, if you kind of get what I mean. Try sitting with your legs stretched out in both directions and try to touch your hand to your toes and your nose to you knee. Then repeat on the other side. Another thing is try to touch your toes while standing or even sitting, WITHOUT bending your knees because that ruins the whole point, though you probably already knew that. Both sitting and standing with this stretch work, we do them both before we dance every class. (well, in jazz and hip hop, now when I was seven in ballet!) Hope this helps! And good luck, I hope you make it!

OK for question 1 all u have to do is act like ur self and but be preppy and to show them that u r ready for a challenge!
for question 2 all u have to do is stretch more and run more!

1 take a acro dance class or take a cheer class they have them at alot of gymnastics places they help alot

2 cheering is not alll bout tumbling

3 be tight with your arm movments and PAY ATTENTION during tryouts

4 look like your having fun when u try out it helps

5 do not back talk at all

6 if u dont make it ask the coach if u can help out at all and try out the next year u will no alot more then

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

Practice Practice Pratcice!! I am a cheerleader and last year, i dodn't know a thing about how to cheer, now i am on one of the highest level squads as a flyer. how did i do it? lots of practice. Make up a stretch routine so u do the same stretches every time, stretch for 30 seconds each stretch. Make up a jump routine and practice it everyday. Example: pike, toetouch, left hurdler, right hurdler, double toetouch. If u don't know what those are, go to ms.pineapple.com, she helps alot!!! She helped me!!! Even if your jumps look bad, keep practicing!! When i first started, I looked horrible!! Now i am one of the most highest jumpers in my squad. For tumbling, sign up for a class or at my school, they didn't care too much if u couldn't tumble. They taught a girl on my squad who couldn't do a cartwheel, a cartwheel, roundoff, and backhandspring. Maybe they will teach u too. Another thing that helps in tryouts is to smile and look happy!! Even if u messup, if u are smiling and doing facials, they will look at that. I messed up so badly at my tryouts, i was for sure i wuld not make it, but i kept on smiling and looking like nothing was wrong, and i made it. Good Luck!! Hope this helped!!

You will definitely need to have good balance, flexibility, and be able to tumble. You'll probably need to do things like leaps, toe touches, and back handsprings. Make sure that you stretch and practice daily!

By the way, I'm in eighth grade too!
