Every team is different, especially depending on what state you live in (generally some states take dance more seriously than others, which makes the technique requirements more or less strict.)

If you are trying out for junior varsity, I would assume you would need a single and probably double pirouette on both sides, what most people call just ordinary "split leaps" on each side, and most likely a center leap as well (also known as a leap in second). Also, my school requires JV girls to have an axel turn, splits on both sides, and a single pirouette into a leap to the ground.

For varisty, my team was required to have an eight count of secondary turns, a switch leap on at least one side, a turning leg hold, a capezio (also known as a calypso sometimes), triple pirouettes on each side, an illusion on at least one side, and obviously all of the JV requirements.

Depending on whether you also do hip hop or pom you will probably need some technique such as very strong arm movements for pom and some "funky" leaps and turns in your hip hop sequences.

If this seems like a lot, don't be afraid because my school is really strict with who makes the team.

Good luck! I`m sure with confidence and poise you'll do awesome!

Every dance team is different. Do you know anything about the dance team and what type of dances they perform? In high school my dance team was hip-hop, so we were expected to have that "inner groove". But, if I were you I would start practicing how to do pirouettes (single and/or double). Dance team is a lot of hard work, but if you love to dance, then the hard work pays off. You should definitely audition because you have nothing to lose:)
