hey
NO WAY you do not have to be skinny to dance
you will just have a little tougher job because you have to carry more weight (145 lbs is not that bad)

i am the same way so many people say i am a great dancer, but i always think they just say it so i feel better about myself
i kind of do think it holds me back sometimes, but you could be totally different

i am trying to loose weight but if you are comfortable the way you are don't change
it is your decision and i can't tell you what to do or not to do

P.S. don't feel bad i know this can sometimes seem like the hardest thing in the world.

you dont' say how tall you are..145 can bea thin weight if you are over 5'8".

being thinner can help you move better in many ways, it can also make the dance movements you make, esp in ballet or what not, look more graceful.

will you general ability to learn and skill be better if you're thinner? no.

Will the moves be easier and look better if you're thinner. Generally, yes.

also it depends on what kind of dance. many dancers are chosen 50 50 for their skill and looks. (cheerleaders, team dancers. showgirls, broadway chorus lines etc )

no! dont get brain washed. you just gotta have skills.

A redhead I dated a while back was "pleasingly plump", and was a tango instructor. Quite good at it, too. A sight more than 145, too, I reckon.

nope look at britanni spears at the house of blues

No but what kind of dancer are you??? I'm overweight for my height but I'm in a class that's supposed to be for people with about 4 more years of experience in multiple different kinds of dances. so that's an example that it doesn't matter what kind of body you have but its how much you love it how much you want it and how hard you try.

HELL NO! i weigh the same as you and i'm 5ft 3in and i can shake it! lol .

it just depends on what kind of dance you wanna do, but either way you should feel comfortable in your own skin, and hey just cause were a little bigger than other people dosnt mean that we cant dance. :) hope that helps.

lord, i hope not! ;)
It really depends on what dance you want to do. Ballet- kinda yes. But your limits are not there! There are a million companies- even ballet companies- who are totally open to different shapes dancing. And theres a girl in my class that really is plump, but she lands all sorts of roles because she dances with such grace and technique.
And remember- you may not even be fat! You may just be very muscular. and heres the thing- dancers tend to be over critical of themselves and their weights. they strive for perfection and always compare theirselves to others. So dont!
If you really think you need to lose weight- and a doctor agrees- then try, but dont forget why you dance! <3

no you dont have to be skinny to dance...im a good dancer and im just average...so no u dont.
=]
have a nice day

NO way!
I know lots of girls who are overweight by a little (or alot) and can look so beautiful when they dance!
One of the best dancers at my studio is overweight, but she looks so gorgeous and graceful doing her technique.

NOOOO... any one can dance.. as long as your not do overweight you are unheilthy.. 145 is'n that heavy!! :)

good luck and have FUN!! :D

ABSOLUTELY NOT. in ANY way. The only difference is if you have more weight on you, you just need to learn dow to hold yourself. A large girl can look just as beautiful and graceful, performance-wise and technique-wise if she gets proper training and learns how to hold herself.

You don't need to be super thing to be good, like other people said.

Actually, good dancers *look* thinner than they really are. I was surprised to see how thin I look when I dance - I'm about average weight. My teacher looks absolutely skinny when she dances but she' slender/normal in the real life.
