A good dance teacher does not play favorites. That does not mean they dont have ones they like better than others, but they dont let that be known to any of their students. At my studio, I reward students for hard work, not because I like them better. But what teacher doesnt like hardworking students? I have 2 little sisters I also teach. One of them is 13 an excellent dancer and works very hard so she gets solos and such. The other one is 10 a naturally good dancer but lazy as heck so she gets nothing extra. I always felt at my studio growing up they played favorites and I did not like it. If you feel you really are workiing just as hard as the girls getting favored and getting nothing for it, then maybe you should look for a different school.

Teachers of every subject have their favourites, and when we progress to the adult world, we then realise our boss has their favourites too.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who has noticed that. : P

All teachers have their pets (favourites). If you are unhappy about this then I would consider changing dance schools.

Hope this helps and have a nice weekend ;-)

My dance partner and I recently left our studio because he had a favourite and it wasnt us. He would give them non stop praise even though we were better and had achieved a lot more. When we were placed or won at comps he wouldnt even say congrats, once he even said that good comeptition results do not mean youre a good dancer. He said my dancing was crap. Me and my partner left.

I told my new teacher about him and my new teacher said that he was very unprofessional. My new teacher said he "loves his babies (students) all the same" :o)

Unfortunately, this kind of things are happening in all domains of our lives...

lol id say like almost all my teachers have their favorites..but many of them will still notice ur effort. i mean im sure u have a teacher who has favortism on u. if been at 4 different studios and they have all had favortism....so ill say that its just not urs xD. well i hope this helps :)

Like others have said, teachers shouldn't pick favorites, or at least let it be known. You are always going to have the dancers that are amazing and work really hard, and then you are going to have the ones that don't work at all, and you'll see the ones who work hardest end up getting rewarded, even if the lazy ones have more natural talent.

I think all teachers have favourites, no matter what subject. It's not fair but that's life. I know it's frustrating though.

I don't believe that teachers have 'favorites' I just think they have more time for certain students.
Yes some get better leads or parts, because the teacher thinks they have the abilities to be able to do that part.
Some people have better abilities than others...
like me lolz!! xXx

All the teachers at my dance school have their favourites. I found they were usually the more confident and their dancing ability didn't always have an impact.

I don't see how they can avoid preferring to teach certain dancers - especially those prepared to give 100% and their own relatives. If they are good teachers, they will not let their preference affect their teaching of the whole class.

The truth is, though, their own relatives are bound to have received far more tuition than the rest of the class, and may well be dancing to a higher standard that the teacher will then use to showcase the dance school.

If you're dancing well and improving, don't let it get you down. That's life!
