Position:Home>Dancing> How can I learn to dance in one day?

Question:Well, I know that's probably not possible. But I've been going to dances since middle school, and I've never actually danced at one, and I kind of want to remedy that, seeing as there's only two left in my high school career, and I really want to get the hang of it before prom.
I'm sure I could dance if I tried, my problem is mostly mental. I've tried before, but I was so embarrassed, so awkward, so clueless about how I should even move, that I just couldn't. I broke down crying once because I was at a party, and I couldn't even will myself to dance in a room alone. (I could still hear the music.)
I've gotten a little better, and I can dance when I'm alone, and sometimes in yearbook class, because people always dance in that class, and are always so unrestrained, like they don't care what people think. I wish I could feel that way about dancing.
Anyone have advice, or know a site where I could learn some stuff...?

Just keep practicing alone. Once you love dancing alone in your room, you'll start to do it more.

Also, don't make it KNOW that you don't dance. If someone's like, "Hey! lets dance!" Don't make your response always "I hate dancing!"

I say this because, once you make it know that you hate dancing, and you "can't," then once you do do it at a dance, people will notice you more. It'll probably be just like "Hey lkajsdfj's dancing!! yay!" But still, it will make you more nervous to do it.

If you HAVE already made it clear to everyone that you hate to dance, then don't bring up that you hate to dance anymore. People won't think about how you hate to dance or don't like to, if you don't bring it up first.

Just do it! Dance at home by yourself, and when you are at the dance, mimic people around you. If someone's doing something you think is cool, then just do it too. You can take it and kind of make it your own.

Once you do it once and let go, you'll realize how fun and it'll be easier next time!

Learning to dance is like Rome: It wasn't built in a day. You have you apply yourself to discipline in order to accomplish any task. Since you are so interested in learning dance, you could always take a class at a dance studio or if you prefer to rent or buy an instructional dance video. It is also good for a nice work-out too! Kill two birds with one stone, right?

You just have to find confidence and not be afraid of what people think. I conquered my fear of being in front of an audience by joining the drama department and acting in plays. Since I had practiced so much with other people, when it came time for my performance it just felt like another practice, but more perfected. If you want to feel more confident, have a family member or friend to watch you and then gradually get a few more people to. You never know if you'll find something out of the blue that gives you confidence to do it!

well dancing isnt really that hard. i mean it depends on wat u want 2 do but its all mental. just go wit the music and do watvr u can and feel. don't worry bout looking stupid. just get loose and u'll be suprised at wat u can do! thats how i learned plus lots of practice(especially if u got full body mirrors in ur room like i do) they help a lot! just try and feel the music. plus u can always look at wat the ppl do around u. its not that hard once u really try and get into it! good luck!
