Question:I know there is not really anyway I can improve this..I was just blessed with crappy turn out lol...buuttt is there anyway I can still go pro..or should I just give up.

Never give up - there are things that you can do to improve your turnout.

"You need to do some more evaluation with your turnout in order to target more specifically how to improve it. Check the flexibility of your iliopsoas muscle first. Sometimes dancers with lordosis have a tight iliopsoas muscle, which pulls their back into a sway. This in turn makes it harder to utilize your turnout.

When you test the range of your turnout, do you test with more internal rotation, or are both your turn in and turnout tight? It would be very helpful to define what is structural versus muscular. If you have anteverted hips with more natural turn in than turn out, you will want to focus on releasing as much tension as possible from the external rotators by using the pinky ball and stretching.

If you have been turning out from the knee down for a while, you may have some tibial torsion, or you may have simply strained the knees by this pattern. Figuring out whether you do have tibial torsion will tell you whether to allow a small amount of disparity between the facings of the knees and feet. If there is true tibial torsion, then you'll have to allow for some, if there isn't, then you'll need to correct the standing pattern.
I'm afraid that I haven't been able to give as straight forward of an answer as you might want. Turnout is a complicated set of relationships between structure and muscle patterns. My strongest suggestion to you is to analyze the different elements in greater detail. You can do this by seeking out the assistance of a PT who understands dance, or by purchasing my book, Tune Up Your Turnout. I talk about all of these elements in great detail.

Look at Yoga and palaties books - that is where you are going to find your stretching help. Also find books on ballet - I have several that have a section on improving your turnout.

yes there is!!! omg my dance teacher told our class this just the other day:
-lay on your stomach and have your legs out like a frog if you know what i mean..
-put your feet together and make them touch the ground
-after you do that, make them touch the ground when your feet are closer to your crotch and so on..
-it really works! i've been practicing everyday and its gotten sooo much better

Dont give up! My teacher has crapy turnout too but she was a Rockette and a June taylor dancer. Just try to look really good in everything else you do. also practice just standing as turned out as possible. But remember turnout from you hips not you anckles or your knees it is really bad you you to do it that way.

I agree with what the other person said about laying on your stomach. That exercise helps a lot!! I now have an almost perfect turn out. Do that exercise once a day every day. You will notice the difference.

iF YOU WOULD REALLY EVEN ASK iF YOU SHOULD GiVE UP THEN YOU MiGHT AS WELL BECAUSE YOU NEED TO HAVE THE ATTiTUDE AND MOTiVATiON THAT YOU CAN GO PRO..


HERE iS A GOOD EXCERSiZE THAT I USED TO GET MY TURN OUT:

"THE FROG"

YOU LAY DOWN ON YOUR STOMACH AND LEFT YOUR FEET UP JUST LiKE YOU USUALLY WOULD, THEN PUT YOUR FEET TOGETHER AND PUSH THEM AS FAR DOWN ON THE FLOOR AS THEY CAN GO.. THE MORE YOU DO iT.. THE BETTER iT WiLL BE.. TRUST ME.. i'M ONLY 12 AND i HAVE iT!! i AM A PRO NOT BECAUSE i MAKE THE TROPHEYS OR ANYTHiNG BUT BECAUSE i KNOW i CAN. <33


OH YEAHH, THE FROG iS HJUST LIKE A PERFECT PLEEEAYY BUT ON THE GROUND.. MAYBE THAT WiLL GiVE YOU A BETTER PiCTURE OF WHAT iT iS SUPPOSE TO LOOK LiKE..
