Dancing ballet: ballet is very popular among young girls and the number decreases some as they become teenagers. At larger academies, you will find boys but there aren't many in general. As they become college-aged/adults, mostly the only people still taking classes are professionals, pre-professionals, and people taking recreational classes. Overall it is most popular with kids/teens I would say
Watching ballet: at ballets, a majority of the audience is adults of both gender. Especially at newer pieces, you will find older people that support the choreographer or are sponsers. At more well known shows, you will see more families and young girls that take ballet classes

It is a hard art form for many people to understand or appreciate so the main audience is usually fairly intellectual adults or those trying to pretend they are! These can be of all ages, 20s to 80s.
Lots of young girls love it and that is why ballet classes are so popular.
You will not find many teenage boys or working class type adults at the ballet.
Popular ballets such as Swan Lake have a wider appeal and one must never forget that ballet of all kinds tends to attract a strong 'Gay' following!

I would say ballet is more popular among women than men. Other than that, it can be popular in any age range. It just depends on the individuals taste and experience and exposure to the subject.

i think it is more popular among women. And also i know that little 3 years olds like it cuz they think of it as princess like.
