Position:Home>Dancing> What makes people think they go professional without any prior training?

Question:Heres an example: This girl was trying to convince me that she would go pro before I would. I asked what classes she does 'Oh none, im a freestyler-how much do you do?' I said I danced 6 days a week, nearly for 12 years. 'Oh-its alright, ill catch up!' In my head I was just like WTF? What do people look for when you go to auditions? Talent and ability of course. But training too!

And people thinking they want to be a Ballerina-when they haven't even taken a pointe class before! Don't they know how painful it is?

By all means dream but...maybe this dream isn't right for you?

I've said my thoughts; what are yours?

It makes me POed, too, but you just have to remember that for every person who thinks they can go pro without training, that's one less person you'll have to compete against for a job or place in a company. Also, the more people who go to crappy studios or can't figure out how to get a good pair of pointe shoes, the less competition you have. (Yes, I AM referring to those annoying pointe shoe fitting questions.) In a way, it's a good thing!

Have you seen American Idol ? most think they can sing and most fail. The people that you audition before can tell who has been working at it and who is a slacker. Your professionalism will show at those audition.

I think people think ballet is easier than it really is. I think it is stupid that someone with no training thinks they could make it pro, that's nearly impossible! they wouldn't know the right techniques, form, and wouldn't have the ability to dance like anyone with training. It's hard to go pro as it is, so how does someone without training expect to go pro?

that girl was full of crap... she need training to go pro

i have noooo idea.. like this girl came into my dance studio a year ago and shes like i've never done ballet before but i am going on pointe soon anyways cause i've seen a millionn ballets before and my mom is going to help here sooo much.. i'm like what?!!
so you think that you can go on pointe when i got on like a year ago and i've been doing ballet since i was 3?!
AND your mom is going to buy you in?
i was like that is NOT how it works hun.. i know i'm only 13 and stuff but honestly?! i know better than that! i know that you have to work so freakin hard to get good and to have strong ankles and to be flexible and obviously ppl like that girl don't know that!
well she didn't know what she was in for obviously cause she moved to a different dance school after that year's nutcracker "to find a school right for her"
~sigh~ sorry for my little ranting there but to say the least i completelyy get it

The phrase "Delusions of Grandeur" spring to my mind about the girl in question.

They see this nonsense in the movies, and think it`s real. She`ll learn the hard way when she auditions.

I agree!!!!!!!!!

Like there are some people here on answers who are asking how to become ballroom teachers and they havent even had 1 ballroom lesson before!!!
Most ballroom teachers have been dancing for at least 15 years and have spent many of those years doing intense competition training and many have competed all over the world!!!!

GRRRRRR it frustrates me :o(

She's an "Underachiever" she thinks she can dance without actually learning or working hard, it's like someone who "Thinks" they can do "Rocket Science" without taking a corse.

U r obviously working very hard and working towards your dreams, while this girl will HONESTLY get nowhere.

Hi,
