Position:Home>Dancing> Am I too old to start dance?

Question:Hi! I really want to take some sort of dance class. Ive been wanting to for years but I have 3 children and was never able to. Im now at a point where I can do something for myself, and I would love to start dance...maybe even ballet. Not to be any kind of professional of course, but simply because I love to dance! Im 30. Is that too old? Im in good shape, flexible and Im very young at heart :) Will I have to take classes with other people...or can I take them alone? Any advice/tips appreciated Thanks!

ur never ever ever ever too old to start dancing! ur only 30! go for it!! u wont regret it. if its something u want realy badly ull earn the skills of ballet it just takes time. o and u mite want to buy a book on ballet to learn the language and the placing of the foot faster :)

no thats not too old sylvester stallone is already 61

Oh, I wish I lived near you. I'd love to go, too. No, of course you aren't too old! Have a wonderful time!

It's never too late to start dancing! Go to your local dance school. Where do you live?
When you will take classess you'll see that people of different ages want to learn how to dance. It's fun and it' a great execise. Your life will greatly improve.
I'm actually planning to learn how to dance and I am 38 and even have a small disability. But I absolutely adore dancing.
Good luck to you and enjoy!

You are not too old. If you say that, you will never do anything. Go for it!! I think it is great. Just call a dance studio and see what they offer. I think it sounds like fun. I work with a woman who is 27 and she takes ballet twice a week.

I think you can start. You are still young.First of all you will do it because you love it.If you are good after some time, you maybe be professional :D

No u are not too old! You should have a hobby....im sure there are calsses u can take with other people at the beginning stage...hope u follow through with it!

Go for it. I just saw a video clip from a 71 y.o. chinese woman tearing up the floor, it was awsome. You're never too old and dancing will just keep you young! Just find a studio you like, don't settel for one you don't really like. Try a lot fo them out, a lot will offer the first session free or at a cheap cost. Good Luck

I've never taken dance, but I'm sure you aren't too old!! No one is ever too old!! What matters is how your body is doing. Some people can be doing dance when they are 100, and some people have to quit when they are 40. It all depends. I say, "Go for it!" Good luck.
You might be able to take classes alone, if you have the $.

Not too old at all! I started back at 30 and haven't had any complaints. There are usually adult classes available at studios or even community centers where you will take with people your age although many allow for age 13 and up. I've taken classes where the age range is anywhere from 14 to 81 (and don't let those octogenerians fool you - some of them are in better shape than people half their age! :)

You can almost always take a complimentary "sit in" class to see the general age range and style before you sign up on a regular basis. Private lessons are available at studios, but will probably cost you quite a bit more and be more difficult to fit in schedule-wise since they have to arrange time for the studio to be available.

Best of luck! Have a great time! :)

I wish I could say "No, you're not too old!" right away but the simple truth is your body simply can't do today what it could 10-15 years ago.

That being said, you didn't specify what kind of dance. My grandparents (who would call you just a kid) began ballroom dancing and square dancing in their late 60's. You're not too old to take most dance classes, not by any means. However, you MIGHT want to stay away from that crazy Hip Hop stuff you see in the movies that are, sadly, popular today. Anything in "Dancing With The Stars" should be okay, but break dancing may break your neck!

Good luck and get out there and have fun with it!

no
dance is meant for fun

You're never to old to start dancing but, as long as you're not looking for a professional career in this then you can do it for fun. As to whether you take classes or alone it all depends on which studio you go to. Good Luck!

No, not at all! I do Irish dance, and some of the girl's parents take lessons too! Have fun!

I'm 35, I started at 33, and I'm dancing better, faster, crazier, happier than a lot of 20 yo kids and dance teachers out there. What is the difference? Passion. And come on!!!! 30 is not old!!!
