Position:Home>Dancing> Dance? How did you become so talented? Were you a poor dancer?

Question:In my CCA, there is a talentime competition and some of us volunteered to do traditional malay dance. Mind you, i'm not Malay. So, the Malay dance girls(CCA) taught us some steps and halped us with the songs. And it's like i'm a nooo good dancer, and i don't want to back out of this thing now, yet whatever steps i do id weird and no one really wants to help me. I missed one session and well, my yearmates aren't really helping, more of criticising, saying that they look weird. I am not a good dancer, no talent in dance etc. So, how do i improve? I've tried practising yet....well, no visible improvement, competition is in March...i don't know what to do, is there any way to turn into a good dancer overnight? =) Just joking. How can i improve when no one offers help? Please tell me.
Please. =)
I need all the help i can have.

when you dance, put all you've got into every move. don't hold back. use all of your emotion, feeling, and being into each move. a step can be sharper, a foot can be more pointed, a leg can be higher. do all you can at that time and make sure you're doing YOUR best without worrying about how it compares with the other people.

being a good dancer has a lot to do with confidence.
i am not a good turner. we were doing allesacon fouettes into an allusion and a leg catch turn. i could not do it when i asked for help and when i saw how perfect everyone elses were. but when we did the whole dance, and i had all of the adrenaline and knew that no one was watching to see if i was doing terribly, i pulled it off.

just try not to worry about what other people are thinking when you're dancing and you'll see a great improvement.

*also do the obvious things and STRETCH AT HOME.

try hard every class push ur self and practice or privet lessons will help

You really need to calm down....stress is not going to help you at all...and for goodness sake don't stop practicing you may not see the results now...but trust me you will soon enough..!Second of all...I wasn't born with a discernible talent as well but years of practice and persistence can work magic...it all has to do with how bad you want it...don't let the comments from those girls take their toll on you..instead try to prove them wrong!Do your best...believe in yourself!There is no actual piece of advice I can give you but constant practice...do the steps again and again and again until you are satisfied with the result...if you do that everyday you're gonna knock them dead for sure..!Best of Luck!

=D

Continue practicing! Some people have the natural ability to dance, and some people need to work a bit harder. You can't expect to see results in one day, but by March you can be really good if you practice. You KNOW what specific steps you have problems with, so ask for help when you have rehearsal. Have you asked the Malay girls for extra help?

just tell them you need help and that you don't want to make a fool out of yourself. also remind them that if you look stupid so do they and you probably won't win the competition. be blunt and direct but still polite. don't take no for an answer, but also don't be rude about it cuz it won't make them want to help anymore than they do now. if they don't want you to "look weird" than they should help you so that you don't. and also, practicing will help. you may not see improvement immediately but don't stop because practicing really is important even if you don't think it's helping. it'll help you to remember your dance, come time to compete. the more you practice, the more natural it will come to you and the less you'll have to think about it. best of luck!

well just remember that you need to practice practice practice! Practice until you improve! There isn't anyway you can turn a good dancer overnight, just like pushpanjali said some people are naturally talented in dance! You can becom a good dancer overnight most of the dancers you see on tv or in the music/dance industry have been dancing for years but you have to BELIEVE that you can improve and become a better dancer if you cant believe that you're improving or try to put effort in improving you wont. Basically you need to PRACTICE!!
