Position:Home>Dancing> I want to start dancing. Is it too late???

Question:Im 14 and I have taken ballet and jazz before (when I was 4 and then again when I was 8) and now I really want to stick to it. I want to be a famous actress, but nowadays, you have to be a triple threat (singing, dancing, acting). Since Im an actress and I have been in chours for a while, Ive got 2 of the things down, but I really need to learn how to dance. Is it too late for me to start ballet again? Jazz? I even want to go on pointe when I get better at it. Im not sure. And if Im not too old, do you have any tips on how to get really good (I know about practice and stuff), but do you have any weekly routines that you do to keep all of your skills and stuff? If you do, can you share it please?

Thanks =)

?

If you find a dance school that will have the right classes for u (ability / age) then it will be great you will have to work hard but u can do it
As someone who has watched people who have started dancing around your age there are a few big things u can do to help u get back into it
-don't be afraid to ask questions, to anyone, dance teacher, other people in your class etc...

-if u can try to go up the front that way u get a really good view of the teacher and it will help u learn the steps better but in doing that try to make sure there is someone close by that u copy off .

-talk to the other people in your class any bets some of them want to do the same thing as u (triple threat lol) and some may have only just started to and they might have some tips

-Practice if there is something that u just can't get during class, practice it so when u come back the next class u know what your doing and can learn the new stuff

As for what you can do to help improve your skills practice, practice, practice. Sometimes it can help to make up some of your own routines including things u have learned in class (as long as u don't get confused with the stuff your supposed to b learning)

don't give up after the first term keep going and soon it'll work out and u will b a pro actress in no time!!!
Just be prepared to work hard and DON'T give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck :)

not at all! a lot of people start dancing late. and trust me, 14 is not late at all!
the one thing you need to gain skills in all of your dance classes is ballet. instead of just one ballet class a week, try taking on two or three. the ballet skills will carry over to your jazz class. ballet is the basis of everything. do not jump ahead of yourself, that's the worst thing. if you're going to a dance studio that's really all about the money (and there are a LOT of those!) they may just throw you up on pointe as soon as you express interest. you need to gain a lot of ballet knowledge and do proper strength training before this in order to prevent serious injury. 14 is a good age to be on pointe, not too young, but you definitley need to gain a decent amount of ballet experience before.

as for skills?
work on your balance, focus on your center and strengthening your core. everything will blossom from that. work on proper ballet lines and positions (arabesques etc.)
and practice them as much as you can. i'm sure your teacher can evaluate your strengths and weaknesses for you and show you what you need to work on.
keep it up! i'm sure you'll be great very soon!

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!

I took ballet when I was 3,4,and 8 and tap at 9 and 10 but then just quit. I'm now 17 and am going back to do ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop....I know it's going to be hard work but if you really want to dance you can do it! I am passionate about dance and really want to be trained so as long as you really want it you'll be great!

Good Luck

no its not too late. its never too late to learn how to dance :)

no, no, no. NEVER TOO LATE TO START DANCING! almost all types of dances are based off of ballet. if you want to take jazz, you should also take ballet. your movements in jazz will be smoother and less awkward. you can go on pointe after you have done ballet for a while and your ankles are strong enough...... stuff like that. i dont want to scare you or anything, but pointe is kind of painful. just a heads-up........ good luck with the triple threat!
