Position:Home>Dancing> How tall is too tall in ballet?

Question:I'm a ballet dancer and I love it but I'm really tall for my age (13) and I'm constantly worrying that this will ruin my chances in ballet, which I am otherwise great at. Could someone please tell me the tallest you can be w/out being too tall in ballet?

In ballet, the longer the legs, the better! I have a friend that in taking ballet, she is 5'11 and they fell in love the second they saw her! Being tall in dance is a good thing, trust me. Don't worry about your height, especially if you are good at what you are doing!

Trust me on this, I'm 6'2 and I've been dancing for 5 years.

I never thought about that, I heard that after 5'6" as a gymnast you were in trouble. I search google on found some dancers at 5'8". But I would guess that you could never be too tall as long as there was a male partner about 2 inches taller.

I wouldnt worry about being to tall for Ballet. Because if you really like it then it shouldnt matter! And since you are a good dancer then I wouldnt worry about it! :) Good Luck with your career!

I'm 14 and i have danced since i was 5
I'm around 5'9 and it doesn't effect anything with it, i doubt that it will ruin your chances in ballet, it hasn't for me so yeah :)

it doesn't really matter how tall you are. if u feel confident that you're good at ballet, don't let your height bother you

There is not limit for height in amateur ballet. I danced with a young lady who was 6'2" and taller than me. Professional companies may be more selective, however as long as there is a danseur that is the same height as his partner (while she is on pointe) it makes little difference. I have an acquaintence in a major ballet company that is 6'3" and dances with both short and tall ballerinas

just do ballet. you may not become a professional but when you're older you could open your own studio or do any number of things.

There really isn't a limit. As long as there are guy dancers (if you're at pas de deux yet) who are 2+ inches taller than you you're good.
