Position:Home>Dancing> Should I take an exam?

Question:I am in Intermediate Foundation on the RAD syllabus. I want to take the August exam and I'm not on pointe yet, just ankle strengthening exercises. Lessons just started, because I'm in the Southern Hemisphere. I'm quite good (I think I've been going for 7 or 8 years) and I'm 12. I do two a week, but if I do an exam it'll be three, because that's what they offer, but I think there might be more if there are enough exam students. The other option is May 2009. I'm also going away for three weeks in the start of July overseas, but two weeks of that will be holidays, so I don't know if there'll be lessons anyway. I'm also sitting a piano Grade 6 Trinity exam and violin Grade 5 Trinity exam, and Mom wants me to sit a theory exam before I'm in high school, but I don't really want to, I suck at theory.

Oh that's crazy, I do RAD and I also do Piano Exams :)

RAD Exams are really good. It's also a well known Ballet syllabus. I really do recommend it. Exams really focus on technique and this would help you if you decide to do Pointe in the future.

And don't worry I suck at theory as well. But they really don't ask you too much questions. You just need to get it drilled into your head and you'll be fine :)

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I would definitely take the exam. I am in intermediate foundation as well!! I have 2 exam classes a week but I'm taking other non-exam classes during the week as well. If your ballet school offers a prep for pointe class then I recommend that you take it. The pointe exercises in the intermediate foundation level are very basic, and I think there are only 6 exercises in total... releves, echappes, ton lie... thats pretty much it. Anyways, go for it!! I don't play piano so I can't really give you any advice on that... Good luck!

Yes, go for your exam! I'm doing my inter foundation exam in may this year. I'd suggest that if you're not on pointe yet, you should probably wait until May 2009, so you can achieve your optimum results. And, just remember that you shouldn't be forced into doing anything you don't want to in the way of theory. (I suck at it as well.) I'm doing my grade 4 piano exam in July.
