Position:Home>Dancing> Should I quit ballet?

Question:So I'm 14 and have been doing ballet for nearly nine years now, but I want to quit.

I'm a good dancer, maybe not the best, but I just don't have a passion for it anymore.

Every week when I have dance, it's something that I just don't want to go to, and I'm dreading it.

I really want to quit, but I'm not sure. I don't do anything else besides dance, and if I quit now, I just don't know what to do. I also feel that if I quit now, I would have waisted 9 years of my life when I could have been doing something else.

First off, it's not wasted. You will find what you have learned will help you for the rest of your life. You learned about discipline, about practicing something to improve at it, you learned about posture and balance as well as learning about being polite, a good listener and basic respect.

That being said, if you have lost your passion then yes you should quit. I quit at 15 after 10 years of ballet. I was quite good actually but at that point, it was no longer my dream but my mother's and my instructors. I don't regret quitting ever. I'm glad that I was able to recognize my true desires and follow my heart.

Yes

QUIT!!!!!!

If you like ballet so much, you should not quit.

yeah probably so try something else you like more

its okay, quit

your head is out of it. quit now. focus on another area you like and work on your skills

no-keeps you in shape

Do wat u think is best for you...leave eberyone else out of your desion....and GOOD LUCK

if you dont feel a passion for it anymore then yes you should def quit...i danced competively in tap for over 15 years and i absolutely loved every single minute of it...but i always said if i lost the spark i would quit...just think about it before you make the decision!
good luck!

yes and try another type of dance

whatever makes u happy do it, but dont mix wat u want and need together cuz maybe u may not want it but u need it

do NOT quite.. you will get FAT !

don't quit completely, maybe just do it like once a week or maybe once every 2 weeks

I don't know why you'd continue doing something you don't care for. You're young you have plenty of time to do something else.

I was a figure skater for 12 years before I quit at 17. Man I miss it now. If you can stick with it. You may resent it taking your time up now but when you get older you will wish you hadn't quit. Trust me.

Well if you don't have a passion for it anymore then it's not something you should do.
You should love doing it and enjoy doing it. :]

well if you lost your passion for it, then maybe it is time to quit

there are other kinds of dancing you can get into, Hip-hop, salsa, etc.

and your 9 years in dancing will help you out when you go to parties and stuff, you'll be the best dancer at the party

QUIT. Ballet is good if your little, now you have gotten all ballet has. Flexible? strong? good. now do something thatwill make you happy. Ik now this is a setrotype but dudes have karate as their childhood sport and girls have ballet. I quiet karate when I was around 10.

if its something you don't enjoy doing anymore then quit

ooooh tough one. you at least are thinking very maturely, can you still do it but a little less...or take a short break and do something in it's place like another dance form, or something closely as athletic..I would hope you wouldn't completely give it up, but when your hearts not into it you may miss out on something else that you have a passion for.

yea, you should. if its just not your passion you are wasting your time and money you can be spending on something you do have a passion for.

do what u thinks is right (but dont give up on ur dreams)

if you want to quit then quit

i went through the same thing with gymnastics, what i did was just take one year off, i just needed a break, and after a year off i wanted to go back so bad, and loved it even more than before, so just take a year off to rest, and then go back, that's all you need ;) hope this helped....

If you have another thing in mind, then I suggest taking a BREAK. Not neccessarily quitting forever. If you leave ballet for a few months for relaxation or another hobby, or just because it's not your thing anymore, that is fine. It's what you want to do. But remember that if in the future you become interested in it again, you always have the option to take it back up.

I think that the passion for it might come back just enjoy it! Ive been swimming competitively for 10 yrs and I know at some points I wonder why I'm doing it, but each year is a new one and you learn new things. Stick with it and maybe if you have a goal that will keep you going!!! Good Luck!

if i was you i would stay!ive allways wanted to dance!and im 14!lol...thats a great sport!im taking hip hop dance soon!but if you realy hate it then maybe you could find somthing els to do!=]

I think you should keep dancing may try a jazz and tap??
I think you will like that or hon if the passion isn't there try taking a break. I really think you should try Jazz and tap it's alot of fun.

I think your 9 yeares are not wasted since ballet teaches discipline and your body has good tone now. I suggest you stop ( you can always return if you miss it) and spend that extra time on academics so you can get into a good college. And/or volunteer if you can at an animal shelter or hospital or something you can put on your college application. Do what you like in sports , riding, music etc and it will give you a varied and broader background in life.

I feel like SO many people quit there life's passion at around this age...

Honestly, I think you should stick to it. I definitely know that feeling of dread...I used to have it when I went to acting class.

You could need a break from it, and see if you feel like you want to return to it; the only problem is, that it may be hard, considering ballet has so much to do with staying extra fit.

Its honestly up to you...know that apprehensions about what you are doing with your life are totally normal at your age, and just keep that in mind when you make your decision.
