Position:Home>Dancing> Can some one explain to me how pro/am ballroom competitions work generally?

Question:Do you do a showcase with your instructor one at a time? Or do they have all couples out on the dance floor? Can some one tell me what the environment is like in these sort of competitions? Do you travel all over the country to do these or is it usually local?

All of the above. The showcase portion is usually pretty limited, with the large majority of the time spent in heats with several couples on the floor at once. You're judged within your level and age range, so a new bronze-level dancer isn't compared to a more advanced one, and the youngsters aren't compared to the senior citizens.
The atmosphere tends to be somewhat reminiscent of a basketball game, with lots of cheering and such, and each heat lasting only a little longer than a possession in roundball.
