Position:Home>Dancing> Who started modern dance?

Question:Isadora Duncan was the first to break out of the norm of ballet and use flexed feet and limbs as well as non-traditional costumes. I think Martha Graham though really took it from there in the 1930's. She is known for her modern dance pieces and is considered one of the first. You can see her take on modern dance in her first solo piece, Lamentations.

There isn't such thing as 'modern dance' or 'who started (enter name of dance'. What is dancing after all? A reflection of desire, passion, inner composure etc, all to the tune of this or that music. Now imagine doing the same routine but to no music (not even in your mind).

Not the same thing, right? So in a way you can say that music's the beginning of all dance, and from this you can perhaps speculate that 'modern music' spurrs up 'modern dance'.

Classical set-ups have been played for centuries in Europe, hence ballet. Compare it to the recent phenomenon of 'technical' sound. Compare the 'routines'. So one leads to another.
