The main difference according to my ballet teacher is jazz ballet doesn't require turnout. At the barre, both classical and jazz do same of the same steps e.g. battement tendu, but classical is done with turnout and jazz with turn in. Whichever you choose probably depends on personal preference.

At 12, you shouldn't be stuck with little kids. You'll probably end up with classmates a couple of years younger, but probably <5 years younger.

It's bettter to start ballet at a yonuger age but some people start later,
They'd probably put you in a class with people your age at a beginner level.
Both are fun, Jazz is a bit more upbeat but if you want to learn the true founddations of dancing you should do classical ballet first.

start ballet first so you can learn the steps then go into classical or jazz it is better to learn the formation and get use to it because jumping right into it will hurt you promise i no this stuff

since youre older, i would do jazz ballet because it will prbably be more fun

Do classical ballet would porb. help you if you go off to do other kinds of dance. I've never heard if Jazz ballet but i do both jazz&ballet and I like Jazz alot more. =)
I dont think you would be stuck with little kids,my studio has 'Teen-Adult' classes and you studio prob. has something like that.

i do Jazz ballet and it is a lot more fun than classical ballet!

i can't help you with your first two questions (sorry) but maybe you could watch a class at your studio for both of those to see which one you want to try. that will also answer your barre question. about the little kids (something i have a lot of experience with lol im almost 15)... it depends on how they do the age groupings at your studio. although i'm sure once you get better at it, they'll move you up with kids your own age. but honestly, being with little kids isn't all that bad. like i said, i'm almost 15 (the oldest in the class) and one of my best friends in the class is 9 (one of the youngest). even though i'm one of the best in my class though, i'm already in the oldest, most advanced class- with 9 year olds lol. there aren't many people at my studio. so yeah, the point is, you really gotta check out how they group the ages if that's a big deal to you. you get used to it though. so yeah, whatever you pick, have fun and best of luck!
