Well... that depends. I thought ballet was fun until I started hip hop last year and then jazz this year. Now I look forward to jazz a lot more, but I still like ballet.

If you're just beginning, you don't have to be that flexible. You're not going to just instantly become a great dancer; you're probably going to start in a beginner class. The flexibility will come with time, practice, and your technique.

And I'm pretty sure you won't ever have to do a cartwheel or a handstand in ballet, unless it's part of the choreography :P Or take exams, for that matter, but your teacher's always watching you. I would totally recommend taking it because if you take other styles of dance, it'll help you with them. Don't worry about it, just have fun!

And -gasp!- we have the same name :o

This is a hard question, you've got to be on your toes to get it right.

You'd probably be taking a class for beginners so unless you have trouble moving none of that should matter. Try it, if you like it keep going. It's just a dance you don't have to be a circus performer for this.

My aunt, cousin, best friend and sister all absolutely love ballet. I've never taken ballet, but I've watched their classes and it always seems fun and interesting. But, it really just depends on the individual. My advice would be to take a class or two and just see how you like it!

You don't really need to be ultra flexible. It helps if you can lift your leg high, but other than that flexibility doesn't matter THAT much.

It might be a bit difficult if you're going into a class that's been going for a while, but I'm sure you're teacher would be very helpful in getting you caught up.

As for exams, it might depend on your teacher/school, but the people I know that have taken it haven't had exams, they just had recitals where you show what you've learned twice a year in front of an audience.

Some people love Ballet, and some hate it. Its a personal preference. ALL types of dance can be FUN and amazing, but it depends on the person.

You should take one class to see if you will like it, thats the only way you will know. Actually, you have to take several classes to know if you really like it or not.

You are still very flexible until age 16 when your flexibility will begin to decrease. In Ballet classes they teach you the proper stretches and exorcise to become more flexible.

It depends on if the teacher takes new students year round or not. If you join and you are the only new student you will need extra attention; if there are other new students you will all learn together.

Every Ballet school/academy is different. Some require exams, some don't.

Ballet is a little tough in d startin but i think it makes u a lot more flexible.Try it.

i took ballet when i was really little and they taught me how to do cartweeels, handstands, and the splits at a very young age.....it not at all boring.....but it takes a lot of flexibility.....so i would take the class and if its not for you drop out...

i am an 11 year old ballet dancer I too can't do the splits or a cartwheel or handstand
ballet can be boring to some people but to others it is life. it takes discipline
there is a saying:
a good dancer isn't good because of her technique but her passion
no matter how sucky you might be stick to it if you want it if not its not for you because you must want it to have it and yes that includes working hard (you also have to memorize these steps but they arent like jump or like Frappé and Allégro, Chassé, Temps levé-but dont worry they grow on you its not like you go home and study them!)
if you do decide to do ballet let me be the first to tell you, you may and/or will be with younger girls because of the fact that you are just beginning
i say depending how good you are maybe one to two years younger than you

Oh no, I absolutely adore ballet! It's true that barre- the warm up part, can get a little old, but the rest is really fun! I wasn't flexible either when I started, but ballet will get you more and more flexible each time you go. We don't have exams in our studio, but I don't know about the others. I hope this helps! Good luck to you and I hope you enjoy it! : )

I think ballet is fun. but don't expect to be doing double turns and high leaps in your first class. you don't need to be naturally flexible but it will come with time taking classes and stretching. if you are taking classical ballet then cartwheels and handstand aren't going to matter. as for joining in the middle of the year and exams it will depend on the school. if your going to go to a company school it will probably be harder but if your just going to an average school there probable won't be exams it shouldn't be to hard to join.

i love ballet! but other people don't u'll have to try it to see if it's right for you. maybe your cousin has a short attention span or just likes more upbeat music. u need some flexibility, but if ur not flexible, u can still do ballet u'll just need to stretch a lot and work on your flexibility. it might be hard to join in the middle of the year if they do recitals they will prbly be way into the recital dances so you might want to wait till summer classes start. as far as exams, some studios have them, but most do not.

ballet is amazingly fun. for me. but yet, it depends on the classes. try out a bunch of different schools and even a few different styles to get the feel of things. and depending on the school you'll have exams and stuff. you'll never do handstand or cartwheels from what i understand. and flexibiliy is a very big factor even tho some people say its not. like you need to do splits and be able to lift your legs a ton of funky ways. don't worry about it though, cause when your a begginner many people start out non flexible, but by the end of ur dance career you'll be a rubber band. good luck!=] and have fun in the dance world.

its not boring at all..well you dont have to be flexible to be able to do ballet... your flexibility will gradually become better the longer you do ballet...but i have to say that ballet is not easy it takes alot of practice and hard work....and you do have exams

Well I do ballet I don't find it boring but maybe some others do...sometimes in can be but it pays off.
Since you are a beginner, it will start easy...obviously...
but I don't think very many studios let you start in the middle of the year, so just wait until next year is my advice.

Forget your cousin, you may love it! You don't need to be super flexible to start, but it is something to continually work on. You won't necessarily have exams, depends where you dance and what method you study. Give it a shot, and form your own opinion. It very well could be that your cousin sucked at it.
