Question:hi, i've been a dancer for about 3 years now, and I've been in about 5 recitals . I love dancing, and it is one of my favorite things to do . I take hip-hop and i am thinking about starting jazz or tap, and want to join a competive group at my dance studio . I dont take ballet , but i do take gymnastics also , which is a requirement for a competition team . Any suggestions for me? thanks(:

im a hiphop dancer and my teacher was telling us at class yesterday that if we were to go to a hiphop audition that there's a good chance we won't make what we're auditioning for if we can't get two clean turns no matter how good we are at the rest of our audition. that's why she's working on teaching us turns. if you can't do some decent turns, i'd suggest taking ballet at least long enough to learn them and then audition for competition. you may like ballet and you may not. if i were you i'd wait until after making competition to quit if you don't like it. if you really don't wanna take ballet, find out if you really need to know turns. if not, i would take jazz instead of ballet. at my studio they do jazz/tap combo classes, so if you really wanna do both, see if your studio offers something like that (or you could just sign up for the classes separately). if you do need to be able to do turns, maybe you can arrange something with the ballet teacher to give you private turning lessons without having to take the class or something like that. see what options your studio has and also be sure of everything they are looking for at the audition. talk to kids who have already made the team for tips and moves that you should know. best of luck!

Take ballet! It will help you in everything from peer-o-wets (cn't spell) to splits.

My daughter is 11 and took dance since 3......they start you in ballet, i wonder why you didnt?? Its the gracefulness of all dancing...teaches you moves, and dancing tecniquis and terms which is helpful later! good luck

I am a dancer too!I would prever you take a Jazz class first for a year and then you will be takeing hip-hop,jazz and gymnastics.Great Mix!Then take a hip-hop/jazz compotition class if your place has it!If not why dont you take.........hip-hop competition.Oh and dont forget your shoes, clothes and water before yout classes and your recital and uh your cometition!Lol!Good Luck!

Take ballet, it will help greatly with extension, turns, balance, etc.

joining competitive is a big commitement usually alot of practices but it's lots of fun. If you are going to do competitive jazz you should definatley take ballet even though it may not be that fun it will truly help you with your technique. hope everything works out for you.

i say go 4 it

if you want to make it anywhere in dance, u need to take ballet. it is the base of almost all styles of dance, and you need it to get into any big studios or w/e. it will help with ur technique and strength as well

I've danced since i was 6 and have been in many competitions. I would just take a lot of ballet and practice all the time.
