I began dancing at age 8, and this is my 7th year. Many dancers start younger, like age 2-4, but they probably didn't retain much of the info. It is fine to start late, Sabra (last winner of So You Think You Can Dance) had been dancing for less than 3 years but won. The key is to practice at home and stretch everyday. Try these links to teach you basic skills and combinations. They have all different styles of dance, but here are some hip hop moves:

I hope I helped! Don't give up on your dream. Even if you don't go pro, you'll exercise, make new friends, gain confidence, and have a lot of fun ( :

I dance at parties and in the club. . .does that count?

a lot of people HAVE started when they were young, but that's totally not the rule- tons of people have started at your age, or even older and they turn out awesome! look at sabra, from SYTYCD- she is amazing, and she started dancing when she was what, 16? it doesn't always depend on your age, but rather how hard you work, your determination, and of course, your natural talent. so good luck!

I've done some combination of dance and gymnastics since I was 3, I'm 25 now. As long as you're enjoying yourself and learning, you can dance at any age!

I started dancing when i was 3. And im 18.

And yes a lot of good dancers do start when there young but you don't have to. A lot also start at a later age. At any age you can start but if you've never danced before you may find it challenging .But if you have a passion for it go for it! Don't let your age bring you down! You have a good 5 if not 10 dancing years left. You could easily dance till your 25. So what are you waiting for!?

I began dancing for fun when I was just a little girl, I remember throwing parties when I was 7, trying to get my neighbors to come over and dance with me as I blasted my stereo (though they looked at me crazy like what is this little kid doing lol).

If you have a passion for dance than thats all you need. Age has NOTHING to do with it. Doesn't matter who started early or even later in adulthood etc etc. That you mention you never learned to dance before, all you need to do is connect your body, mind, and what you feel inside and just flow with the rhythm of the music, the beat how it moves you, knock out any "stiffness" in you so you're fluid, and you're a dancer! And a good one! Michael Jackson was as good as any of the "formally" trained professional dancers he's worked with, on Thriller for example...the choreographer rated him with the best of them, especially because he never had a class before, he was a "natural".

I have a great dvd you can pick up...its a hip hop video that teaches you poppin and locking, breaking, waves, etc and its titled "BreakDance Step by Step"...I got it from www.Amazon.com and its an excellent dvd that I recommend, its a lot of fun and it breaks things down for us to actually understand and perform it. It also has a little "street dance" history for those interested in hip hop beyond just performing it.

By the way, you mention you're age of 15. I'm in my early twentys and though I've always loved to dance as far back as i could remember, it was just for myself...i never danced as a part of school, nor did I have a group to be with as a teen, I'd just get in front of my mirror and dance, or just turn out the lights and dance like no one was watching...as I got older, I finally started hanging out at clubs at 19. Now that I'm in my twenties I've decided to sample formal training, so I'm taking beginners ballet and jazz, and on the weekend African. No shame in my game (or any of the other adults).

I dance as good as anyone and it has nothing to do with when I started. It'll be the same for you, trust me, you'll be a good as anyone if its a talent for you (meaning its innate to you, so naturally you just got it like that). Just keep practicing and letting passion be your driving force. ((And never be intimidated by anyone, you will continue to grow))

EXTRAS: Someone here mentioned that you have a few years left "til your 25"...wrong, as long as you maintain your good health you can dance as long as you want to. Madonna is almost 50 and she's doing her thing. Don't let age EVER be a factor, there are professional dancer older than 25 years old (and they're as good as anyone you'll ever see). I'm not 25 yet, I still have a couple years before then, but you think I'm looking at age? I'll keep on till my legs fall off.

i started when i was 3 & i am now 16 (13 years) & i am not giving up anytime soon. I love to dance so much as it is a way for my to express my feelings & who i really am. I have made some Best Friends that i will keep for life through dancing.
I <3 Dancing!

I turned 20 years old last September, and I just started a month ago, I am learning how to Krump and also hip hop dance. It does not matter how old you are.. It matters of how much time you are willing to put into it.. I will say its not an easy task.. But if you want to learn bad anough then you can... if you go to youtube.com they have plenty of instructional videos from people all over the world on any type of dance... i personally go to youtube and learn from this guy thats goes by the name of Kris Khaos... He is very good and does Krumping and hip hop.. i hope this is helpful to you.. Good Luck on becoming a dancer!!

Ive been dancing since i was 4 yrs old. starting late only means that it will be harder to gain your flexibility and it may take longer than usual because your bodys not used to it.
BUT KEEP TRYING
and eventually u will get there!

i've been dancing since i was 4. music has always gave me great energy. i've been breakdancing since i was 11, lockin since i was 10, and krumpin since i was 21. i'm 22 now and have my own breakin studio!

well i learned how to dance
by watching a couple of videos on youtube
yeah those vids really help
well basically i learned how to krump
off of youtube
but usually dancin comes naturally
just keep in mind when
you dance dont
make yourself so stiff loosin up a
bit and it'll look really good!!

I started dancing when I was 4, although it doesn't really matter at what age you start. Many famous dancers didn't start until they were age 12 or 13. As long as you work your butt off and more and you truly love it, you can achieve your dream. Good luck!

I started at four. but hey sabra one so you think you can dance after only 4 years of training!
