yes you will need elastic. the ribbons are to hold up the sides of you shoes. the elastic is to hold the back on you heel. you you put on your elastic put it on a pinkie finger's width from the back seam.

Yeah. The ribbons are pretty but they won't hold well on their own. You need elastic, too, usually at the back of the shoe making a loop around your ankle. If it still slips, then the shoes may be too big for you.

Elastic is kind of a must for pointe shoes. They hold the shoe on your foot just as much as the ribbons do! You also might need a half size smaller if they still slip off your heel.
