I highly recommend argentine tango - that's what I dance. It is challenging to learn, but very rewarding. To find the best teachers and avoid any sleazy teachers, go to a milonga (social dance) and ask around. Spend some time looking at tango videos on youtube or tangovideoproject.com then talk to dancers at a milonga whose style you like.

There are several major styles. Young people tend to like nuevo tango, the style danced by Chicho in the video posted in another answer. Here is another with him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyZq6sOLI... This is all lead/follow, not choreographed.
Chicho is one of the best nuevo tango dancers.

There was a time in the distant past when dance instruction had a lot of sleaze in it. That's not often the case any more. As a matter of fact, many teachers are married and that's the furthest thing from their minds.
Is it hard? Well, there's a lot to learn. A good instructor will make it enjoyable and take things in small increments. Most students, in fact, push to do too much too fast, rather than having the instructor do so.

Firstly, are you talking about ballroom tango or argetine tango?
If youre unsure here's 2 videos for you to get an idea of which one you want to do

Ballroom tango- http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-VWoVjMug...

Argentine tango- http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=1TyqjMp2HN...

-If you want to do ballroom tango then you will need to take ballroom classes, most beginner classes will teach you 4 ballroom dances (waltz, quickstep, foxtrot, tango). Teachers normally only teach the 5th ballroom dance (vienese waltz) to more advanced dancers as some find it trciky to learn.

-There are classes out there that offer argentine tango classes if thats the styles you are interested in

Good luck!!!
