Position:Home>Dancing> Pointe Shoes not bending when fully broken in...?

Question:I have noticed that my fully broken in pointe shoes don't bend to my foot, if it is pointed. On revelve it looks awesome, but in a tendu or something like that it doesn't even look like i am pointing my foot. I was wondering if the spilt sole pointe shoes would help this. has anyone had the same problem or used the spilt soles? Thankss!!!

First of all let me say do NOT get split soles. That was the most pain full pointe experience of my life the whole 6 months I had them. My toe shoes do this all the time. My dance teacher told me it was because I was sickling my arch. Another reason might be that you either have a really big or really small arch. If your arch is too big or too small for the arch on the pointe shoe then it won't look pointed. so it might be that your pointe shoe isn't designed for your specific arch. For a small arch I recommend Grishko Mayas and for a bigger arch I recommend Grishko 2007's. Another good brand is Leo's.

Hope This Helps

Good Luck

I'm not the person to use point shoes and I don't know much about them, but, I do dance(I'm 10 thats why I dont use them) and I suggest that you use a different brand of shoes. I suggest Capezio's(I think that is how it is spelled)Hope I helped!!!!!!!!!!

You might not have a very high arch or it could be the lack of quality of your pointe shoes.
You should purchase Freed of London, Russian pointes, Capezio, or Grishko. Never Gaynor Minden's thogh they are cheater shoes.
Happy Dancing!!! :)

the reason your shoes may not look as pointed off of point could be due to either a small arch or a very high arch depending on your foot. (if your arch is small you can do theraband excercises to help it)

i would try using a different brand of shoe but definately not going to the split soles. most companies don't allow their dancers to wear them because the split sole looks bad on stage when no one else has them..

another reason not to use the split soles is because the only difference between those and the regular soled shoes is that the split soles have what is known as a "red card" in the inside of the shoe so that there is support under your arch. i really do not reccomend those shoes to anyone no matter how good/bad the arch is.

try different brands until you find the one you like. the most used shoe in ballet is Grishko and i know a lot of girls i know (including myself) prefer the grishko 2007s. just some food for thought...

be careful and have fun with your dancing

Split sole pointe shoes are not for classes or anyone, for that matter, who is not a proffessional dancer. They are difficult to use and do not work for regular classes and the average dancer.

It's much harder to point your toe in a pointe shoe, as you probably full well know. If you point harder and don't sickle!!!, it might solve your problem.

Don't try a new brand yet. Try this. This is a russian excersize used for breaking in shoes, improving arch, and molding pointe shoes. This method is dangerous and I am only giving it to you because you're the strongest type of dancer and I trust you to control your foot and be strong.

1) Tondue devant, and bend your knees so that you're completely over your box and maybe some. Go as far as you're comfortable.
2) Slowly and carefully straighten your legs, keeping over your box. In other words, keep the entire flat part of the box on the ground as you come up slowly.
3) If you cannot straighten your leg completely, adjust your leg in or out to accomodate.
4) Repeat al à la seconde and derrière.

Do this excersize every day and you'll find your arch, tondue, and pointe shoe improving to your foot very rapidly. Do not overdo it. You can seriously hurt yourself with this russian training method. As you might know, the Vaganova School accepts only students with "banana" feet. This is why all russians have impeccable feet -- and why all russian pointe shoe brands are built for a natural arch.

Good Luck,

good cheat is try oiling the leather sole and try using some inserts to help fill them out. it's acheat but it will fix anything cosmetic. just try another brand. the best might not always work for everyone. inhad $250 practice pointe slippers made in france and my feet looked like garbage. my arch was catastrophic. i got some $70 slippers and my foot looked gorgeous. just try oiling them a bit. baseball glove oil or even baby oil. don't over do it if it is not a well made slipper it will fall apart. try banding them into shape when you do not use tme.
