Well, they don't HAVE to but the 'ideal' ballet body is small head, long neck, short torso, long legs and feet with high arches.

ballet company's prefer dancers with 'hidden' muscle. they don't want girls with noticable leg/arm muscle but rather girls who are quite slim and slender, sort of soft looking.

There is more to a perfect ballet body than just appearance. You must have flexible hips (good turnout) and have strong core muscles. A lot of the desirable aspects of the perfect ballet body build up over years of ballet (work, work and more work).

Try focusing on your technique, eating right and being fit (instead of focusing on body type). Always strive for your personal best and don't compare yourself with others. Be healthy, strong and enjoy ballet!
