do not go straight into the split, you can hurt yourself.

breathe, breathe, breathe. i guarantee you that if you breathe while doing the split it will be much easier. when you go down more and more take a big breath out. this will allow the oxygen to get to your muscles and stretch them. if you resist and are not breathing, that will make matters worse.

a stretch to do before the split is to put your legs hip width apart and bend over, grabbing your ankles.

when you are ready to do the actual split go as far as you can then stop, breathe, and try to push a little further. go as far as you can until you cannot and then stretch more.

a good time to do this is while watching tv. try a butterfly stretch during the show and attempt the split during commercials.

just sit in it all the time. when you are just chilling watching a movie or watching tv sit in your split .

get two exray targets. get in a hot bath for 20 minuetes untill your loose. do the splits.

If you're flexible, it MIGHT be possible if you just keep stretching pretty much constantly. I did colorguard/winterguard for four years and stretched every single day, and never got any splits down (well, I was about an inch away from a full left split for a while . . .)

Good luck with that

I was over 20 before I figured out how to do the splits. I started stretching my hip flexors and was able to do the splits ever since. If you don't know how, it's like stretching your quads, but the knee has to go FURTHER back, and still stand upright. You might put your leg behind you on the back of the couch or something.

Don't just stretch the splits. Do butterflies. Also, do heal stretches. We'd loosen them up while cheering by standing against a wall and having another person push on your legs. Another thing is one and a halfs. More or less they were just high kicks on each leg that you did like a jumping jack. When you're stretching your splits, lay on the front leg for 30 seconds and then lean as far back as possible for 30 seconds.

The best thing to do is to stretch before you go to bed for 10 minutes... then try doing your split . When you get to the point where it hurts stop there until you get used to the pain. Then it won't hurt no more.
