Central Ballet has the reputation for being difficult, but successful technically. Since ballet is all that is taught (no hip-hop, jazz, acro...) the focus is first in learning the correct techniques. Children can start as young as 3 years old. Many of the students move to pointe shoes when they are 10 to 12 years old, depending on ankle stength and amount of training. A preschooler takes one class a week, a nine year old takes two, with a middle/high schooler taking three/five a week depending on commitment and desire to improve. The ballet mistress, Ms. Lori Ann, has a very gentle and sweet spirit so all of the correction and teaching is done in a non-intimidating manner. The atmosphere of the studio is generally positive. The school is a training grounds for the Central Ballet Dance Company, a Christian performance group, which performs full length ballets. These show are concerned to be a ministry to the community so often times are stories taken straight from the Bible. This years ballet is Sleeping Beauty which has been rewritten to emphasize good vs evil; God's way vs the world's. All in all, Central Ballet is a nurturing place to belong!
