woah, chickey, calm down! you can start ballet now, at 12. its fine. you have some catching up to do, but your not far behind. most kids who start at 3 dont actually start learning much technical dance until about your age. the rest of the girls your age may start pointe soon, but you'll get there eventually.

and, some people who go train professionally leave their hometown and the school that they attend and either have tutors, get their GED or attend academic classes at the dance school. these are usually people who are training at a school associated with a dance company.

but you can have both. many people do. you can train to professional caliber, and that doesn't mean you have to be a ballerina. i will also remind you there are millions of girls with that same dream, but maybe 1% will actually become professional. good luck!!

it's never too late... ^^ you're still young.
it depends on your determination.
you can do it!
i hope you'll be a great ballerina someday.
i'm a ballerina myself and i love ballet so much.
i started at the age of 8 and now i'm 13.
well, the point is...
you're still young...
you still have the chance to reach the pro level.
just do your best!
^^
Godbless...

iam 18 and i have been dancing since i was five but i picked up ballet really good in two years... so if u are a fast learner i say go for it.. and i got to be in a public school too. so its possible. its the matter of how much do u want it and are u ready for it!

It is never too late to start a new thing. The age twelve is a great age for starting dancing because as your growing and 'moving on up' you are learning what you can't and can do. This really gives a great look at things in life too. Having no dance experience is NO problem at all. You can learn from mistakes and become an amazing dancer one day, who ever knows! If you are very committed and happen to hire an adgent, or get a job on Broadway, or become a ballerina for: SAB, ABT NYCB, etc.etc. then you may need to go slower on school. Teachers WILL understand, you will just need to show them you are responsible and can manage anything they throw at you. If you want to be pro? You better work by yourself at home, at the gym, at dance, ANYWHERE possible..Practice splits, work out, work on barre work for ballet, anything... Dancing begins to get tough because of multitasking school and dance, but if you BELEIVE in yourself, you can DO anything! I hope this helps somehow? As I am a dancer myself, I have learned and gained a wonderful life.. Good luck with EVERYTHING, and have a great day! :)

Well don't dismiss your dreams but it is hard to go pro, especially if you are just now beginning. Go to a local dance studio and sign up for a beginner class and an early intermediate class. It is best to take a class your level and a class a level harder or easier to either challenge yourself/build technique. Stretch at home every day so that you are best prepared for class. And, some dancers chose to go to art school in which you dance about 4 classes a day and then still take regular classes, whereas some are home schooled or have a tutor. This wouldn't be necessary until you are very good and fully dedicated to ballet. Good luck!

No it's not true you have to give up school, who told you that?! I am in public school and doing very well in ballet, so there. But if you are hoping for a life long career, consider boarding schools that only have ballet as activities, so ballet, 24/7, except for some school hours, as long as you're not as dead a doornail or as stiff a cement, you'll always be at a perfect age to do ballet!

Yes, you can strill start ballet!

It's never a bad thing...

You will just be bihind some of the younger kids but i dosn't matter!

Good Luck!

P.S

i'm 13 and i just started ballet!!

well actually most girls start ballet at 10 at latest...but I guess if you're thin and somewhat tall you could still do ti, believe in yourself. of you want to go pro-level you might have to spend a looot of time dancing...but not enough to quit school....I mean if you want to be a ballerina for the rest of your life then you should quit school, but if you just want to dance and be good at it for a hobby than stay in school.
good luck! youre really gonna like ballet

No 12 is not too young to start ballet. I started when i was 12 as well. And now im in the highest level there is in our academy. No it's not true you have to give up school for dancing, you just have to work harder to get good grades. If you want to be in the highest level you have to really want this, and work at it all the time. Follow Your Dreams!!

It is a good age to start. You do not have to give up school. Unless you live in a very small community, you should be able to get good training where you are. Some dancers join companies at 15, and some at 18 or 20. It is all up to your talent and natural ability, and how hard you work.

Ballet it really Fun!!
12 is the perfect age to do ballet!
And you can become a professional Ballet Dancer!
You don't have to give up school! Unless however you want to become a professional dancer then by the time you are 18 you become a full time dancer. :)
But starting at 12 you can still become really good. :)
