I know what you are talking about. Every September when I start dancing again I always get sore muscles.

I use:
epsom salts (you can buy them at drug stores)
a heat pack/hot water bottle. I sleep with it so the pain is gone in the morning.
arnica cream
and muscle melt

all this stuff helps me allot.

for the splits resistance stretching helps allot.
Once you are warmed up gently go into the splits (or what you can do) for about 10 seconds. Then push with your leg muscles away from the ground (you can use the help of your arms a little) count to ten and release. This lowers you into the stretch.

I hope this helps!!

cool where are you doing ballet at? I just started too

You can't do much about being sore other than take a hot bath. The fact that you're sore isn't a bad thing. It means you're getting stronger! I'm actually disappointed if I'm not sore after a particularly hard class because I didn't get much stronger from it.

There's only one way to stretch out your muscles: stretch. Once you take some classes, you can copy stretches that the others do.

well, when your muscels are sore, bathing in epson salt works really well!

The more often you take classes, the quicker you muscle pain will go away, and the less muscle pain you'll have. At first, it will hurt, but it's a good pain. Just take a hot bath and some pain killers.
Have fun!
