Do NOT listen to the first post.

You should definitely go for it. I am a teen as well and have been bellydancing for quite some time now, so I am not just being supporitve and kind. I promise you that if you are fuller-figured woman, bellydance IS the thing for you.

Not only does it increase your strength, flexibility, and endurance, it will give you a new appreciation for your body and let you learn to love the wonders that that belly can do! At my studio, the best bellydancers are on the fuller side. They have more to work with, and they are so beautiful when they dance. I am the thinnest in my class, and I always look at those beautiful dancers and wish I could dance like that. I wish I had hips I could move like that, and be sexy and feminie. It takes longer for me to learn the moves with my boyish body.

My point is...bellydance was designed for women with curves. In fact, when I tell professional bellydancers that I'm a fellow bellydancer, they often laugh and say that I mustn't be any good since I'm so thin. Bellydance is the one dance form that is perfect for all bodies and embraces literally every body type. It will do wonders for your self esteem, and while you're at it, all your hard work and cardio will end up whittling your waist down a little as well.

GO FOR IT. It's SO much fun, and you will not regret it at all. I promise.

Go for it! Some of the best belly dancers that I know are full-figured. If you like the music and enjoy the dance, that's all that really matters.

give it a try, those belly dancer aren't thin because they don't eat, they're thin because they belly dance!

No one cares how big or small you are it is how skilled you are. If you look at some belly dancers they are not the thinnest but the get it. Remember belly-dance is not about sexuality ,that is a mistake and it has no shape to it. It is about embracing ones natural self. There are even pregnant belly dancers who are just as good as everyone else.
If you are going to do it , do so because you want to , not about what someone is going to say because true belly dancers wll say nothing about your size, and will praise your skill even when it is minimual.

Well the whole figure thing is debatable because it depends on the country. If you were in the middle east or desi countries they'd like you to be average but with curves as opposed to thin since there is less chances of you showing off the move in the right way. So curves DO compliment the move better. HOWEVER, in other countries no it doesnt matter. I've seen girls who are a bit chunky and they still bellydance. One of the teachers in our troupe is a bit overweight but she can shake it! lol It's how good you are that in the end matters the most. Though i agree that curves do compliment the dance better sometimes the best bellydancers prove themselves in the quality of the dance rather than their physical attributes. Plus i used to be overweight and i lost weight with bellydancing :)
