The two who answered before are correct. You must have like, the perfect body (totally skinny, flat), and there are better schools.

ABT is pretty good, especially the faculty and guests. I would also recommend PNB (Pacific Northwest Ballet) and Princeton ARB. Those are both challenging enough.

1/4 of them would get in! that is a hard school! they want you to be overly skinny, and have a small chest.

maybe 1 in 20, and there are better schools

The summer program only accepts 200 students out of the thousands who audition during the 22-city national tour (not counting the auditions held in NYC). Out of those, only "a small percentage of Summer Course students are invited to enroll in the School's Winter Term."

There really aren't "better" schools, as SAB is one of the top ballet schools in the U.S. However, SAB isn't the right school for all aspiring professional ballet dancers. The environment of the program is super, super competitive and the weight restrictions are super, super strict. They kick students out for being too heavy, which is not a healthy emotional environment for many kids. I've met several former SAB students who do not speak of their time at SAB very fondly and were glad to seek training elsewhere.

Basically, any school affiliated with a professional ballet company (or formerly affiliated, like the Rock School) would provide you with excellent training. Other excellent schools include North Carolina School of the Arts, Walnut Hill, Nutmeg Conservatory, Virginia School of the Arts, Harid Conservatory, Idyllwild Arts Academy, and Interlochen Arts Academy.

"Ballet Talk for Dancers" has information on all of the best ballet schools.
