Well, here are the pros and cons for each.
GYMNASTICS:
Pros: muscle and core building, balance, endurance, arm strength.
Cons: form is sacrificed, some things may be too easy, heavy-impact injuries, head-and-neck injuries.
PILATES:
Pros: balance, core building, grace, therapeutic qualities.
Cons: may be too 'slow', less floor movement(more movement in one place than across-the-floor).
FINAL JUDGMENT:
You are looking for a good partner excercise to ballet, and that would have to be PILATES.
Not only will it improve your full-body grace, you will be able to gain the calm mindset pilates can provide, and learn a lot of principles that ballet utilizes on a constant basis.
Gymnastics is definitely faster and can be considered 'funner' to the more energetic, but if you work on a semi-pro, competition, or professional level you should not take gymnastics; the risk of high-impact head, neck, and muscle injury is too great and you risk missing out on practice and competition. Plus, gymnastics rarely touches on foot position, back alignment and other qualities ballet requires, so you may get confused and lose quality in both gymnastics and ballet if you skip back-and-forth between mindsets often.
Pilates can seem boring, or slow, or not even truly excercise to more high-energy dancers, but honestly, it is the best thing for your body and pilates offers a lot of therapeutic and inner-health benefits as well as the obvious excercise.
Good luck with whatever you choose, and I hope your ballet skills soar!

yes

definitely pilates. pilates helps build your core muscles which are necessary in being a good dancer.
gymnastics would also help but your more likely to build bulky muscles which might get in the way when doing ballet.

Pilates.

it will help with ballet much more.

Gymnatics biulds up different muscles to dancing

Gymnastics by far. Pilates are already too similar to ballet...you should try something that is going to work out different muscle groups at different intensities and gymnastics will do this for you. You will find after a few weeks of training that ballet will become easier for you (as far as the muscle work goes) and ballet will help you in gymnastics as far as balance and poise are concerned.

Pilates will help to develop your body the way it needs to be for ballet....you will gain lean muscle and slim down. With gymnastics you may bulk up in certain areas, like your arms and legs. While adding bulky muscle can be good for strength, it interferes with the long, lean lines a ballerina needs. Definitely stick with pilates. It will also strengthen your center and core muscles which will help with pirouettes, extensions, and more.

Pilates will bring you strength and help prevent injuries. Gymnastics is fun, but will most likely weaken your knees and cause more injuries than you're bargaining for.
