Position:Home>Dancing> Am I Too Old To Dance Ballet 23?

Question:I have always wanted to dance ballet, and thought I would definately go for it (i couldnt beofre because of circumstances) I am worried though because now im 23 and don't know if im too old. I starting beginners lessons next week for adults at a reputable ballet company but wonder if I can only go so far. Am I too old, or will I be able to get to the same standard as professional ballerinas one day? Thank you so much :)

It is never too late!

The key to dancing is to ensure that you follow a consistent training of stretching, technique, and physical movement. Age does not determine one's progression through dance, rather, it is one's passion and one's training that determines progression.

Ensure that you are learning and practicing proper technique, that you are stretching everyday to encourage the lengthening and elongation of your muscles, and that you are developing muscular formation to support the eventual progression to 'pointe' work.

I started dancing when I was 6 years old and trained consistently for a period of 8 years. I am now in my 30's and although I do not train any longer, I have still maintained my flexibility and technique through consistent stretching and recreational dancing.

Sheer love of the dance will carry you far, but a dedication to the craft through pursuing proper form, technique, and working on strength and flexibility will encourage your progression to more advanced work.

It is admirable that you are training with a reputable ballet company.

Go for it! You wont know unless you try, you may not get the lead in Swan Lake but you will be getting one heck of a work out! And there is never anything wrong with trying something you are interested in to see if you really like it! Have fun with life and that means going for it, whatever it may be!

you can dance ballet at 23, 24 etc.

it would be very hard for you to reach the level of most professional ballet dancers, who started at about age 5.
But you will never know unless you try it, and throw yourself into it, will you?

all you do is in joy it for now and later figure out if you'll go further with it. Defiently go do it!i know people who start at 30! ( she is in my class). As long as you train everyday almost all day if you really want to be a pro, but have fun for now! good luck.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! you will do great !
Good Luck
