Position:Home>Dancing> This is for ballet dancers.....?

Question:Hello. I have been doing ballet for six months now and i'm still having problems with my confidence. i'm fine doing things with my teacher and can show her some steps in front of her but i find it hard to do anything in front of the actual class.

I can force myself to do things but it doesn't make me feel any better. I would just love to dance and not care if eyes are waching me. I just want to block it out. And i know that people probably don't care if i do something wong because they are all quite nice in there but i just cannot get around the confidence bit. i was so confident when i was little, but as i grew older my confidence slowly perished. I'm 17 now. I really love ballet so i need to get my confidence right up so i can enjoy it more. please help. thankyou.

Thats exactly the same as me, although i am 15. I used to dread dancing on my own infront of the rest of the class. And to be honest, it is so much harder to perform infront of people you know than people you don't know. Luckily for me i have overcome that fear when i started doing festivals and shows. And although its easier performing infront of people you don't know, if you can perform infront of strangers, you can perform infront of anyone. You have to believe in yourself, and just have a laugh. There's always going to be people who are better than you in everything you do, but it doesn't matter whether you're the best in the class, or if you're the worst in the class. Enjoy the time you have to perform infront of your friends, it''s a time for you to show how much you enjoy what you do. No one is going to laugh at you.
Just go for it! good luck x

I don't normally have much confidence generally, but dance is an exception because I love it so much. If you really loved ballet that much then wouldn't you have that confidence? I dunno, i'm probably wrong about that....just practice loads at home and perform in front of people as much as possible. You will get used to performing in front of people and gain confidence as your dancing skills progress. Hope this helps!:]

I've been doing ballet for about 10 years now. I am thirteen and I have been en pointe for almost three years. At times my confidence level sinks in class. Just try your hardest. It's extremely dificult to start dancing at 17, so props for even doing that. If you work the hardest you can, you well get better, and that will help to boost your confidence.

When I dance I try and zone everything out. just think about dancing your best. it doesn't matter what ther people think.
