Contemporary and modern dance??

Question:what is the difference between contemporary and modern dance? are they basically the same or just similar styles?

modern usually has a differnt tone, a more aggressive tone, and the music usually is aggressive as well. the moves are sharper. another difference is in modern there is typically a lot of floor work. contemporary is usually a little more graceful and the music is more flow-y than modern music. its a good question to ask though, since usually they are pretty close to being the same! if this helps, when i think of modern music, i think of angry tori amos songs. if i think about contemporary, i might think about sufjan stevens songs, but maybe without the lyrics. i hope this helps, especially because they are pretty close to each other!

contemporary is more graceful...modern dance involve funky dance ..more aggresive than contemporary..hope u get the whole idea
