Question:I was a gymnast for 16+ yrs......and you need to stretch a minimum of 4 times a day!!! Try and soak in a hot tub/ or a spa for about 15-20 min, then get out and do some stretches--- sit on the floor, feet & knees together straight out in front of you(do not bend your knees- push them down to the floor) and bend over to touch ur toes. Grab ur toes and hold while deep breathing and telling your muscles to relax(mentally).
If this is easy after a day or so.....pile up some big thick books and put your heels on top of them - and follow the touch ur toes part.
A big part of "high kicks" is to keep your hips from floating from side to side....hold a chair back and practice! Even if you cant go high at first, it will happen, have faith!! But you have to work at it ALOT.....also butterfly stretches - sit on floor and bend knees and put feet souls together. Bend over and try and put your nose on your toes - with your heels as close to your body as absolutely possible....
Drink lots of water - this will help your muscles to gain flexibility and be hydrated!!!!

Yoga and stretching exercises.

Stretch every day, even 2-3 times a day. Since you want to be able to kick high, stretch your hamstring muscles in the back of your upper thigh. To do this you can stand with you feet together and reach to touch your toes with straight legs. You can also sit on the ground with your legs extended straight in front of you, and bend toward your toes (flex your feet for an increased stretch). Oh, and splits help too!

you can do some Pilate's or stretches

Sounds like you are in a level of dance that you shouldn't be in if you can't even do high kicks.

You should relax your body and think stretchy. I am not kidding. Relax your mind and your body. Do lunge stretches and butterfly stretches. Sit on the floor with your legs apart and press head to the ground. Also dont stop stretching or take a break in the month because you could lose all that you worked up to. Also a little work out wont hurt. But dont over work your self because you dont want o be worn out before the dance.

STRETCH!PRACTICE!AND!TIME
YOU can look up some stretches you can do. try practicing with your friends so u can help each other... and correct the mistakes. Stretching every day for a long period of time is good for your muscles and will help you with your kicks. make sure you do the right stretches properly! get a group of friends and turn on the radio while u stretch it will make it fun! just dont loose focus.
