Position:Home>Dancing> I need some ballet advice?

Question:ive been practicing for a audition for a summer intensive for about a month now. the actual audition is on Jan. 19 and ive been practicing like crazy. However, ive been off of my pointe shoes for a while now and today i tried practicing in my pointe shoes, and i fell. Not only did it hurt but it also bruised my confidence, i feel like a joke because ive seen how others dance, and i cant hold a match to them. I just turned 17 and ive been doin pointe for 3 full yrs and this is my 4th yr....the audition is so close and im afraid that ill make a joke of myself and fall. Plz...i need some advice from other dancers on how i can prepare myself for the audition, i just dont know wat else to do.

people fall all the time, especially in pointe shoes- i know i did (several times, in front of the whole performing company). you just have to laugh it off and concentrate on doing better (which i'm sure you're doing). it's a lot of pressure to want and need to do well, just remember that it's not the end if you make a mistake. on the moves that you know how to do, do them with the utmost confidence and skill. even if you make a mistake, don't second-guess yourself. my teacher always used to say: "if you're going to make a mistake, MAKE it- don't be afraid to do something".

good luck, i hope it helps :]

dont worry about it. Everyone falls jus keep practising ankle strengthing excersises and use a barre at frist like you did in your first weeks of pointe, you just need your ankles to get used to the hardship of pointe again. the same thing happened with me when i was in a cast for almost 2 months after that i couldnt even stand en pointe but eventually you gain all your strength back . :)

i hope this helped and good luck

P.s at your audition. dont forget to smile and be totally honest with them :P

Try to stay calm and focus on your job. Practice is key, you'll get your stuff back. You need to trust yourself this is the time. Good Luck!

keep on practising in your pointe shoes, youll get used to them again. i know exactly how you feel just gradually wear them more and more... even around the house! thisll make you feel at ease in them. its what i do before shows if ive had an injury. may i ask what summer school it is???

don't think negatively and have confidence in yourself and make sure it shows, just not to the point where u end up looking like a cocky know it all, just keep in shape and continue practicing. o ya and don't be scared of what ever step u were doing when u fell. r u trying out for joffrey cuz thats on jan. 19 too

just dont worry about it.
if ur just out of practice, start up again.
but remember to start with less at first, like just releves and stuff at first, and it'll come back to u fast
=]]
good luck!

forget about falling and keep practicing as often as you can... at auditions everyone is nervous and they all have doubts about they're skill level as compared to the other people there. don't doubt yourself just do your best and give yourself lots of pep talks. everytime you start to think something negative, turn it around and make it something positive. it sounds corny but it'll help. everybody falls and messes up but it's the ones that get up and keep going that are destined for greater things. you can do it and break a leg at your audition =] ...i don't even know you and i'm rooting for ya lol. you'll do fine.

don't worry, just get your strength back in your ankles to go back onto pointe and practise whenever you can :-)

practice, practice, practice more!!!! don't give up because you fell, try even harder! have confidence and do your best! if your best doesn't cut it, don't beat yourself up- try, try ,try again!
it's all about picking yourself up :) gl and Merry Christmas!
